Are you talking about just tar paper? I have both tar paper/asphalt shingles and corrugated sheet metal left off of some home improvements. So I can go either way for free. I think the tar paper and asphalt shingles would be easier than fooling with the tin but not sure I want those roofing nails sticking down through the ceiling.

I use tin. Stuff some old screen in the cracks and have my wife make curtins out of plastic screen. It blocks most rain, keeps bugs out and you can see thru it easy.

I think every stand on our lease is different, whatever we have laying around when we build it. Some kind of sheet metal or tin probably last the longest but it will scare the shite out of you when squirrels start throwing acorns at it.

We use tin. There is no sleep on earth like sleeping in a deer stand with a tin roof during a rain. Makes me sleepy just thinking about it.

We don't put windows in our box stands, just curtains. If you will nuke your stands around the first of August, you don't have to worry about wasps. It's always fun to climb into a stand with a can of wasp spray and a stick.
This is almost the exact post I was planning. I've never hunted out of any box stand that was not homemade. The wasp/stick routine is an annual ritual. Thankfully, I've never had to deal with vultures, flying squirrels, or owl shite.

Tin roof with an angle, it sure was nice yesterday with the rain coming down.

I am thinking that the angle isn't overly important as the stand is pretty much guaranteed not to be perfectly level. As long as the tin has a few inch overhang it should be good. I just about have the plans all drawn up in cad along with a bill of materials. Who knows maybe I will sell them Leave it to an engineer to over complicate anything

Yeah, I want to edit my original post to add that that awesome sleep you get under a tin roof can be absolutely ruined when an acorn hits the top. I've awaken several times thinking someone was shooting in/under my stand to later realized that a squirrel was the culprit.

Yellowfin, I hope to have a Winn Parish rain report this afternoon.

We didn't even see a deer and our food plots were up about 3 or 4 inches. They should look nice by this weekend.

Don't use tin, to much noise for me to sit through when it rains. Use the rolled asphalt shingles that Bleeding Purple linked to.

That's what I use and it works great. Just buy a box of roofing tac's and you will be fine.

Dude, this can't be real. There is no better sound than rain on a tin roof...

I could think of one or two but, I get what your saying.

Not when I'm hunting, I don't want my ears ringing from sitting through that. I've had them all (had a buddy that was a roofer) tin, slate, cedar shake, architectural shingle, you name it.

But for my money and time, nothing beats plywood and rolled shingle. Easy, cheap and light.

I have some 30# felt and 30yr architectural shingles left off of my house after Gustav that it looks like I will be using.

Tin works great but it has to be in the open. I hunted several times in a box in a wooded area. On several instances deer were spooked by acorns hitting the tin.
