What can south Louisiana expect? I don’t remember after Katrina or some of the other storms how bad it was.

Anybody have any type of reference or memory of what a storm like this causes?

Just amazing how much damage a storm like this causes to a region.

A lot of the Freshwater river systems on the Northshore will experience significant fish kills for bigger fish due to a combination of saltwater inundation and hypoxic conditions that result when the flood waters find their way into the rivers.

After Gustav, the fish kill under the Basin Bridge was bad enough to be smelled in my truck while going 70+ MPh. That was rank.

I'm hopeful that Ida was eastward enough to not decimate the basin. The primary reason the old 14" limit in the basin didn't work is that the frequent fish kills really limited the number of fish that could reach 14".

The marsh will have one, to what extent is anyone’s guess at this point. The water was getting sucked out of western Terrebonne. I don’t think basin will be on level of Andrew kill. But there will be one. River got a rise coming, may help the situation.

I am in a shrimping group since I got a 16' trawl and I occasionally go out. Shrimpers have been having insane catches right now, but the conditions are not good for fishing. When the water clears up and the shrimp are plentiful and fishing will pick up big time. Right now everything is muddy.

As far as kills, you never know, some marshes got emptied then refilled, some simply got flooded with surge, something, somewhere is not happy. High water in the rivers is good for some areas but bad for others... I don't think we will see anything that wipes out our fisheries.

The Chef Pass water is like chocolate milk right now. It may clear up in a few tide cycles.

I tossed enough freezer venison in to make all the crabs fat, so theres that.

If it’s anything like Andrew in 92, it’s going to stink up the place and fishing is going to suck for a while.

If I recall the fishing was good in south plaquemines after Katrina when boat were finally able to launch again. The storm damage gave the place some time to heal without fishing pressure I guess.
