We use a crock pot a lot when camping. Set it up under the RV awning in the morning and when its dinner time its good to go. Obviouslly pot roast but also pork roast and pull it when done and mix in some BBQ sauce for quick "pulled" pork, same for chicken and both can be used for tacos, chili, there is almost not end to what one can do. I know people who do the same thing in a dutch oven in a fire....they get a fire going properly and when its good and coaled up they bury the dutch oven and 4-5 hours later its good to go. Maybe a salad and some bread and dinner is served and usually lunch the next day.

Fresh fried fish, boiled crab or shrimp at the fish camp are tough to beat. A hot bowl of gumbo or stew or sauce picante and a bourbon at the hunting camp after a cold afternoon hunt hits the spot.

other than a good ribeye, all of what we cook comes from the land/water of the camp. Fresh fried fish, pork, deer, frogs. favorite sides are fresh corn from the fields early season, and red or white beans and pork. always an italian salad.

Beef stew over rice, or over a slice of bread when you warm it up the next day for lunch after hunting.

catfish court bouillon

fresh fried deer meat with cane's syrup drizzled on it

deer \ turnip gravy

Last season I cooked a 5 gallon pot of gator and shrimp sauce piquant that was pretty damn fit too.

We'd put a pork ham or shoulder on the smoker in the morning and keep the fire going all day. Wrap some sweet potatoes in foil for the last hour and have some baked beans. At dark the meat would be falling off the bone.

Depends on the weather, but during the hunting season it's generally chicken, duck, and sausage gumbo. Anytime else it's mainly barbecue or fried fish.
