Wonder no more.

This madman conducted a rigorous at home evuation of 48 leading products and compiled them into one of the best quality forum posts I've ever read. I highly recomend reading the whole thing, but if you want a TL;DR, Frog Lube and Hornady One Shot are head and shoulders above the rest. I will be switching to Frog Lube.

I searched, so not sorry if Germans.

Damn that frog lube is serious. I thought I remember some people getting in trouble with false claims over it but it appears frog lube can back it up.

I just recently bought a bottle of Lucas CLP that I got at O’Reilly by the register. I wonder how it would stack up here. I’ve mostly used BreakFree and Slip 2000 but may reconsider.

Props to that guy for the test. That was extensive.

Bap, Ive drank too much to read all that. What beat CLP? Wasnt Frog Lube the cleaner that would mold and mildew inside a gun? Its organic, if I remember correctly and doesn't last nor stands up to heat.

Is this guy a Fudd or a shooter?

He’s a shooter but he readily admits he doesn’t do a heat test. The temperature is all constant and he did it in the winter.

I imagine the majority of guys’ guns will never see this level of corrosion and neglect. But like torture tests, it’s still interesting to see what holds up and what doesn’t.

I believe so, but I also vaguely remember something about them going through several formula changes too. In any case the testing was from a few years ago so who knows how 2019 Frog Lube performs in the same tests

I think we always used Miltec in the military but maybe it was Breakfree? I've been a Slip 2000 fan for awhile.

Best lube for storage I guess. Like you said no heat from the weapon which will change things drastically. I use slip2000 ewl and it's been pretty good.

You can get a gallon of BreakFree CLP for under $60. That's decades worth for even a serious shooter. Soldiers fought WW2 with a lube that only had a standard that involved resistance to washout. If it slides, use a grease. If it rolls, use an oil. Hoppes #9 is awesome for carbon removal. Montana Extreme for copper. Guns don't care about what oil is used.

Had a fellow range officer give me a bottle of military grade break free out of some bulk product he acquired many years ago...it is supposedly much better than the consumer version...I have to say, that stuff holds up to some pretty extreme conditions.

Eezox is the best metal protector for storage. Slip 2000 is a good metal treatment and makes barrel cleaning easier. Militec is what I use on the ARs, especially the BCGs.
The bottom line to all of this they all work if you use them. Never put a dirty, used gun in the safe.
