I'm pretty tight with a dollar and never understood the "name brand" purchases people make. I've always found great deals on solid equipment for outdoors/hunting/fishing without spending a fortune.

But things happened and I bought a pair of Costa Jose 580s Thursday as I headed to the Florida panhandle. 3 days of kayak fishing in gulf, and drove over to the pass in Destin Saturday around noon to kayak/sightsee.

Costas w 580 glass is the tits. Amazing. I apologize to all of you I chuckled at for spending that kind of money on sunglasses. I'll never go back to cheap sunglasses again.

I already have a Hobie, but I'll never own a Yeti unless I win or am given one, so there's that.

I have to agree...I still have cheap sunglasses around to use in instances where I might damage them or need legit safety glasses, but for fishing glasses, I have never found anything that beats costas...

i was just like you were several years ago.. once i bought the 580 glass i have never went back. I have 3 pair now.. the ole saying you get what you pay for.

As far as the yeti goes, i have 6 (not paid for any)
Pros
-tough as hell, i use it to stand on as fishing deck alot
-great latches on it
- last forever
- keeps ice as long as you keep it shut

cons
-not a beer cooler, if you open it.. ice melts, there is no magic ice that stays froze
-heavy as f!
-have to lock it down because they will get stolen

Personally i would never buy one, because i cant justify the money.. but since i have them, i will use them and like them for what they are.

I can't go outside without sunglasses on, therefore $200 for a pair of shades is a great investment for me. I've got three pair of Costas. Nothing wrong with your purchase at all, IMO.

I'm a big fan of Costa as well... They have a great warranty policy, I actually just sent in a pair of Jose 580s yesterday because the plastic on the frames began to separate. I've had them about a year and a half.

Got a new pair from Bowie 2 weeks ago. I've got 2 pair plus a broken pair I'm too lazy to send back. I bought the wife 2 and my mom 2. They're damn good glasses. You only get one set of eyes baw, protect them.

I agree. 580 glass is the tits.

The glass in the Costas are excellent but I hate the frames can't find any that I like. My Jose's are my backup pair, but 95% of the time I wear Oakley's and the water I fish is too damn muddy to matter anyway.

I'll part ways with mine. Sent mine off for repair and decided to go with different frame. Frame to small for my melon and they won't take them back.

I am on my third pair of Costas. Used to have a pair of 400 glass Costas and 580 glass. Lost them both, and finally got another pair a couple years ago and had to go 580 again. One of those things that you don't understand till you use them.

MJ>Costa

ETA: It's the gospel

And I've never had a good experience with Costa customer service. On the other hand, MJ is top notch. They will take care of you when you need them.

I have the Jose's with the 580g lenses as well. Love the Jose frame. Mine are the Tortoise frames with the green lenses.

Little tip. Only clean with warm water and dish soap with soft paper towel. I use the Viva paper towels.

I've had a pair of Rx MJ's for about 6 years and a pair of Costa Rx glasses for 4. Both are great. My Costas are the Howler. I prefer the MJ's for driving because the lenses are darker but for outdoors the Costas are better.

You left out that the high thermal mass melts your ice unless you pre-cool it for 2 days before dropping the ice.
