On HWY 98 west of McComb, MS. there is a guy that trains GS for protection/security work. I do not know his name but maybe you could track him down and I am sure he would know where to get a great pup.

First answer was your best answer. I have one thats a great dog. Barks anytime someone pulls in thats not a regular. If its a regular (family car) he doesnt bother. Very loyal dog. Says beside me anywhere I will let him go and not hyper.

I would get a pup. Most of the time the rescue dogs are older. They need homes too , but they maybe a better fit for someone else. We got ours at 4 months old. I dont know any reputable breeders in that area, but I bet someone on here does. Since hip dysplasia can be an issue in this breed, you need to be aware if that is an issue in his bloodline.

I'll never have one of those either. A family that stayed with us after Katrina had one. They talked about how sweet and nice he was, but said they were going to muzzle him just in case. With his muzzle on he still tried to attack me. The only dog that has really tried to injure me.

Had one down the road when I was growing up that was a law suit waiting to happen. Almost got us one time after it jumped their 6' fence. My bike was in the ditch because a car had came by (we were young) and I had to drop it and run. I almost caught me before I got in the house. I hated that dog from then on.

I'll go back and read after I post this.

My catahoula is an excellent guard dog for when I'm not there. When I'm home he acts like just one of the kids. However, when I'm not he fills my spot as the Alpha and takes care of the wife and kids with an intensity that would make any Doberman scared. He has yet to bite anybody, but he has made the UPS guy so scared that he refused to get out of his truck.

We had a rescue Doberman growing up. We would pull on her ears, jump all over her, never minded one bit. Wonderful dog.

Oh, look, it appears your GSD is going to eat your face long before my doberman eats mine.

Your GSD and What Was Your Face

Seriously, I love GSD's. But, stop talking smack about my dobie!

Again, it's all about the breeder and the owner.

Should've asked if anyone knows someone that breeds them in their backyard?

Oh, I know. I'm just joking too.

I loved my GSD, but they do shed like mofo's.

Can you shave/trim a GS during the hotter months to cutback on the shedding?

You can shave anything if you get it drunk enough.

If they shed, they shed. It may be shorter if trimmed, but that hair is still coming out.
