what do yall think i am looking at price wise for a GS?

If you want one with health testing and certified hips, probably at least the $700. I only paid $500 for mine, but I got very lucky. I paid $1700 for the dobie.

Cheyenne will literally rip your fricking throat out if you go for my daughter. Sure they're a good family dog but become attached "like velcro" to one person in their life. She'll frick me up if she thinks I'm really going after my daughter in a non playful way.

Yes Heelers are very protective and attach themselves to one person usually but lacking in size for what he wanted.

You should see the reactions my wife and I get when we walk our Cane Corso. People are awe struck. But, the BEST reactions are when my 11 year old walks him down the street and she is completely in control of him. He is double her weight, and ten times as strong. I am a police officer, and was a K-9 officer for a while. I would take a Corso over ten GS, or any other herding breed. They work in a completely different way. The herding breeds look at the whole protection thing as a game of fetch. Some, if you are a lucky owner, can take it to a truly protective level. Corso's are ALWAYS in protective level. If you've ever worked a dog, I bet that makes sense.

Has anybody mentioned American bulldog yet? I rescued one and she is 82 lbs very trainable and great with my 5 year old. She is 3 and a half years old but very chill. She loves to exercise and train or just as happy to sit and watch tv while you pet her head. Delivery people get nervous as she is very protective of the house with a very loud bark. Once she is out on a leash she is awesome as well and not aggressive unless she feels uneasy.

Minor shedding and a great protector.

My sister had a Cane Corso, one of the best dogs Ive been around. sucker was huge, about 180#. he used to put his head out my rear sliding window in my truck. it took up the whole thing. People were terified of him, but I would trust him around a newborn.

the reason i was looking at a GS is because i know they are managable in apartments, we both run about 3 miles a day, so we would exercise the shite out of the dog, but not all dogs can handle the apartment... and i know GS can

I was looking at these German Shepherds in the Houston Chronicle. They look awesome. I like the white due to the heat in TX.

White German Shepherds

EDIT: Just read on the AKC about coloring--> Color
The German Shepherd Dog varies in color, and most colors are permissible. Strong rich colors are preferred. Pale, washed-out colors and blues or livers are serious faults. A white dog must be disqualified.

AKC German Shepherd Dog

Edit 2: Another Gem from AKC:
DisqualificationsCropped or hanging ears.
Dogs with noses not predominantly black.
Undershot jaw.
Docked tail.
White dogs.
Any dog that attempts to bite the judge.

From what I was told white german shepards are inbred and they are mean.

My german shepard was a freaking beast. Protective and very friendly. Wish she was still around.

My boxer sucks at being protective, she loves everyone and only hurts dragon flys when she can get them.

I am pretty sure the whites are called American shepards. They are know to have issues with their noses. It gets scabby and flakes and bleeds a lot. The white hair with the shedding is a nightmare. Had one growing up. Lived to be 17. He could carry a full size basket ball in his mouth.

Had a white GS when I was younger. Awesome dog. Very protective and smart as a whip.

I will second the Doberman. Mine has been a great dog. She scares the hell out of any democrat who walks by the house.
