I carry while cutting grass, cleaning a carb on a dirt bike, Etc. I may lay it on a shelf while in the basement if I am up and down a ladder, etc. it will be within reach though.

BTW, I did have a man/woman pull into my lower driveway while I was in the basement and the ole boy tried my center door. As soon as the doorknob twisted, I opened the door on him and had him on the end of my .45. The expression on his face was, well......just wonderful to witness. He ran to his truck and his pregnant wife asked me to not shoot him. I just told em to get the hell outta here, made note of the tag, and called it in. They were arrested within two weeks as they continued their MO elsewhere in the county.

nope, unless i am specifically going to shoot the gun. no gun needed while hiking, biking, scouting, etc.

Sometimes i forget that 90% of the OB is scared to death of snakes and other small harmless critters.

If I walk off the porch at the camp I'm carrying a pistol on my belt. Haven't had to use it once this year, but have needed it for snakes and coyotes in the past. My dad shoots a snake off the tractor practically everytime he cuts grass.

Concealed Carry Permit does not allow one to carry where firearms are otherwise forbidden. WMA regulation is just like a private residence, business, or governmental building posting a sign that says no guns allowed.

you need to read up on your laws.

I carried my pistol with me this weekend every time I went hunting (except for a morning duck hunt) because there were hogs all over the land we were hunting so I didn't want to get caught with only 5 shots in a rifle.

Here is a trick question is it legal to have a pistol when waterfowl hunting?

Why wouldn't it be?

One time years ago - getting checked by federal agents while goose hunting - guy saw I had a pistole on me belt - asked me to remove it carefully and hand it to him and he unloaded it..

check all of our shells for steel.. and licenses stamps etc... then said they could have written us op for having the pistol... .... I didn't ask..it wasn't that big of a deal to me....

Typically if it's anywhere that I would be carrying my wallet then I will have my pistol as well.

I love the stories of people hearing things stalking them in the dark and they have to whip around real quick to try to shoot them. (we have even had stories of people firing into the dark)

Very rarely. Serious question...Why would you carry a sidearm with you have another weapon for hunting with in your hand? I know this thread pertains to other times as well but I'm just curious.

I hate them. I don't want to be in the woods with these idiots.

yeah, that can be funny. Then i remember the time I was walking out of Lac Ophelia NWR in the dark after a bowhunt, and heard a bunch of coyotes start howling pretty close to me. Hair stood up on the back of my neck.

I do love shooting my Browning Buckmark .22 pistol, but do not carry it everywhere, and I spend a good amount of time in the woods hiking and scouting. I'd get busted on the refuges with that thing for sure.

I don’t in ONT but I don’t live in bear country, but I have a cousin in the interior of British Columbia (think mountain lions and grizzly bears) – he carries at their camp and when he is in the back country. Its not legal to carry handguns like this in Canada (there is no concealed carry option), no provision for this for handguns in Canada – long guns are ok but they are not convenient and not suppose to have one loaded in a moving vehicle etc. But it is common when sledding (snowmobiling), back country skiing etc to carry (not a 38 either – don’t bring a small calibre round for a large calibre target ….). At the lake camp they also have a pump gun handy – 1st shot buck shot – next 4 slugs. When I worked in the arctic (think polar bears) we had “wildlife monitors” and a 303 or 308 was very handy

One of them was Bigfoot, and he, Bigfoot, was clanking sticks against the trunks of trees.

In my opinion, one would carry a sidearm with them because it would allow them to have more shots and it would be easier to pull a pistol out and shoot rather than having to shoulder a rifle or shotgun.

For example: I went on a weekend hunting trip to Lowndes County, Alabama with some friends of mine. The woods stand I went to Saturday morning is a well known area for a large group of hogs that come through early in the morning. So, with that being known and me being on land I am not familiar with as it was my first time there I was told to take my pistol with me. If I had seen something I would think it would be easier to have a semi-auto pistol with 15 rounds and 1 in the chamber that I could have pulled out and shot a lot easier than having to shoulder a 30-06 bolt action rifle with 4 rounds and 1 in the chamber.
