I don’t understand what they’re trying to accomplish here. You can buy a stainless tikka with a great trigger for $700 and change the barrel in your garage. They’re supposedly going to have BAT make it, so it’ll cost twice that at least, with no trigger. Best case it’s as good as the tikka you could have started with. What am I missing?

I think they said shooting for 1000ish.
A stainless gun is more like 850 or
So and then a bunch of spare junk that no body wants when you build it out like I want.

Honestly the NX8 2.5-20x 50 would be fine for you.

You’re saving a little weight but not much.

ETA: look at get a threaded barrel and a silencer as well if possible and you don’t currently have one.

People shite on the 6.5 Creedmoor but I love it. Not always the best blood trail but it’s a tack driver and fun to hunt with. I haven’t lost a deer with it. Always dead within 40 yards.

My next gun will be a 7mm PRC for myself.

The threads on the barrel will perfectly match those on the action resulting in superior accuracy. Can't do that in your garage.

With a tikka you absolutely can. They're made so well that you can screw any tikka barrel on any tikka action and it will be correctly headspaced.

Tikka rifles are vastly higher quality than most custom rifles.

Ruger is doing great things with bolt guns these days, but Tikka is almost the Lexus of the type.

If I had hunted exclusively with 30.06, I would probably stay with that round unless I just needed to upgun for range or target.

7mm PRC is going to shoot flatter and not have the recoil of a belted magnum. In fact, in the right platform you could get longer range and softer recoil going 7mm PRC. It's probably a good choice if you aren't going to stick with .30-06.

Im not talking about headspace. I'm talking about concentricity.

As the manufacturer of the bare action there is no way they can control that anymore than it already is if they aren’t making and installing the barrel. Stock tikka actions are machined so precisely that there are 20 different prefit barrels on the market that will spin on and headspace perfectly. That’s why rokslide loves them.

Again, I can go buy a stainless donor on euro optic today for $700, and pick from a dozen barrels that will shoot bug holes. What about that is broke that needs fixing with an action that will cost twice as much to best case be just as good? Rokslide is creaming over the idea of them making a mini action, and they’ve already said they aren’t cause they can’t and it would be way too expensive.

The only two gripes anyone ever has about a tikka are the two position safety, and that all actions are one length. If they go fricking with either of those they may find out real fast why they’re made that way.

So basically people think since Remington went to shite such that r700 clones had to be made, that there must be something to fix on a tikka.

It's borderline irrational. Tikka, Sako and Ruger all make rifles today that are better than anything Remington ever made.

Tikkas are great rifles and 7 PRC is a great cartridge. Tikkas are also very lightweight. NF scopes seem overkill for a Tikka hunting rifle. Look at this Zeiss Conquest it's really all you need for 500yd hunting.

how do they do with 20" and shorter barrels? I've been eying rifles and I want something with a shorter barrel to use in a tree.

Yeah I like that one, hopefully it takes off. Last I saw it's still just Federal making the ammo for it.

It will probably only be federal for a while at least since it is using a proprietary case material.
