What is your opinion of hunting with this weekend forecast? The rut should be going on in my area of Miss, and was looking to get your experiences. I know after a rain is good, but not sure if it rains all day.

If the rut is going on, you want rain. The biggest ones will be scent checking all day. I've seen bucks come out when it was literally pouring buckets. Good luck bud.

Can't shoot them from the couch. It's not ideal, but it beats the couch... I have a few boxes built for rainy days, and man are they nice when it's coming down.

As hard as its raining at my house they be moving by just floating on by.

But I don't think rains have any affect on rut behavior other than the immediate downpour.

I've never killed a deer in pouring rain personally, but I enjoy nothing more than sitting in a dry boxstand listening to the rain on the roof.

I have killed them in light rain and immediately afterwards, so if had the chance today, I'd have my butt parked in a stand.

Good luck.

I've hunted quite a few times in the rain, because I'd rather be in the woods. That being said, I haven't ever seen a damn thing. Before or after rains have been the best times for me

I enjoy hunting in any climate, but have always been told that deer will pick up human scent easier when there is moisture in the air. Our scent particles supposedly linger more when it has rained.

All in all, it only matters to me which way the wind is blowing, but I will still hunt even when the wind isn't right, just to get out there.

I will be up there hunting this weekend. Only the second weekend this year I have gone without the two kids in tow. Just wanting some opinions on people experiences. I shot my best deer in January 2016 after a front moved thru, and the rain stopped.

IMO, a light misty rain that requires you to bump you windshield wipers every now and then is the best. Having said that, I enjoy hunting any rain as long as there isn't lightning in the area. I GTFO when I'm in a stand and lightning starts coming down.

Bucks will wander during rain checking scrapes or scent checking. And with the fronts we've had moving through for the last 24 hours, I'm sure they'll be restless when everything slacks off. They're full of testosterone right now and riding out a storm for 12 hours. Once it slows, I'm sure they'll be moving somewhere.

My uncle tells the story about sitting at the deer camp in his 20’s when he first started hunting. Pouring rain and hot. Old timers staying in the camp dry are laughing at him putting on his slicker. He goes to his stand, climbs up in the still pouring rain and a few mins later a huge 10 pt steps out. He drops it and got it mounted. Still hasnt seen a deer like that to this day

I've killed more bucks in a steady drizzle during the rut than any other time. I think the rain knocks their sense of smell down and makes them have to move more to find does.

My camp is under a tornado warning in this current downpour. Just got a cell picture of a buck feeding in a field. They will move regardless of the rain.

I’m in a box stand right now in Madison Parish. About to find out.
My favorite type of hunting is slipping slowly alongside killed like that, even with lightning.

Hunt in it but be on the ready during short breaks when it may stop. I've seen deer get up when rain would stop, feed in a food plot and return and bed down once it started raining again.

That has been my experience as well, but some say it helps their sense of smell.
