Does anyone know of, or have hunting land in Mississippi to be leased. Looking for possibly lease directly from owner.

Not sure how to say this without coming across as a dikk but.
There is not a single piece of ground in miss or La worth leasing that’s available for leasing.

What Ol Boy said. I’m a duck hunter who is about to transition to deer hunting and my plan is to have a decent lease in 5 years. That’s with a dad and friends who are relatively connected in that world. The good stuff that comes available rarely hits the market.
Your best bet is to network your way into the best lease available and hop to better properties as your deer hunting network expands over the years. If you have something to offer like heavy equipment then that can help too.

I talked to a guy about leasing his property up in SW MS by fort adams.
We had a good chat.
I call him back 3 days later to get more information about it and he already found someone to lease it to.
That is how fast a good lease in a good area can go off the market. Within 3 days someone took up the lease.

Depends on where you're willing to hunt in MS.
A lease in wilkinson county is harder to find than a lease in pearl river county.

Weyerhaeuser lists properties for lease in the late spring. You can sign up to be notified when things get posted, will need to have 5-6 guys you get along with lined up to split costs as there’s no telling how big the property will be, and be ready to pull the trigger immediately. No it’s not going to be the most desirable property but any timber in MS is going to at least have does on it with a punchers chance to catch a mature buck wandering through. If your expectations are higher than that then you’ll need to start asking everyone you know where they hunt and if they’ve heard of any openings, and hope they like you.

This was at the ice/water machine on Hwy 24/48.

They post that every year. It’s at the amite county coop too. I’ve often wondered why they have to look for members like that.

I would go that route over Weyerhaeuser. They suck to lease from. When they clear cut sections of our lease a couple years ago they completely cut off access to 3 of our box stands and destroyed acres of property with 3-5ft ruts. They left an insane amount of logs everywhere piled up. They pushed up a pile against one of the box stands that is taller than the stand, the box is 8ft off the ground.

Can attest. They are not fun to lease from. Also if there are consistent trespassers Weyerhaeuser will not do squat to stop them.

Assessors map is a great tool. No need wasting your time with white folk, better to find black ones. Whites always have that one family member that will object or come in at the last minute. I’ve been burned a few times with that.
It’s out there. You just gotta be diligent and straight with the owners. Only several acres in a good area / spot is all you need.

Not a lease, but if you want to buy some land get in touch with Slade Priest. He specializes in hunting property in SWMS. You can google him.

Is that Silver Creek hunting club?

I have no clue. We lease some school board land not far from the ice machine and I took a picture just for this purpose.

You could always go this route.
Harvey Enterprises (225) 634-7397
Drawback is they’ll only sign 1 year agreements and go up a dollar an acre every year or so, but you’ll have a lease. Good luck.

Did you tell your lease contact? They typically contract out the logging and have repeated asked us to let them know if the loggers are leaving a mess, dumping hydraulic fluid, etc. When we complained about a main road holding water after logging they sent a dozer out to fix it. I guess it depends on the employee you get ahold of.

We literally have a piece of logging equipment on our lease. I guess it got overheated and caught fire. It's just there as decoration every time I walk to one of my bow spots.
But it seems like most logging companies leave the property a disaster. Just driving on Hwy 24 you see lots of property that has been cleared and its just a mess. At least they made sure our main trails were all cleared of debris. Now we just wait for the stuff to rot and briars to take over.
