Great story and life lesson Wayne. Yeah I was too "patient" on one thing...and that was getting my Dad his 1911 to match mine but with EGA (Eagle Globe and Anchor) handgrips....I was gonna get it for him for Christmas of '09 when I finally decided what route I wanted to go....Dad got called home by the Lord in February of '09. There was always 2 things I wanted to get Dad...that pistol...and a restored 1968 Ford F-100 with a 360 and 3 on the tree like his original "Old Yeller" Ford he had (his first truck he had before he went to Vietnam). Moral of the story...never wait to tell/share with your dad. That's one thing you should never procrastinate on.

My dad misplaced his pocket knife so I bought a new one of the same model. Because of that, he will find it between now and Christmas I am sure.

My money is he will find it between Dec 22 and Dec 24 at 6pm.

Single malt scotch, 18 year minimum. Then get two glasses so your father doesn't drink alone.

Last year for Christmas my daughter gave me NASCAR School at Texas Motor Speedway. There are others around the country but this is the only one with nascar Motors. The others run Corvette Motors. Plus my brother in law is an instructor so I’m sure she got a deal. I did program 4A-10 lap driving and 4 lap with a driver. 150 mph on the wall will get your arse tight. Not that expensive $328.00. I think it was cheaper on special then too.

For Father’s Day she gave me tickets to The Eagles in New Orleans for just us two and that was really great.

For my birthday she gave me a trip with Theophile Bourgeois which we are doing in a couple weeks. Not the float plane-which my wife has done several times-my kid won’t get on that plane.

We all just decided we for the most part have all the things we need so we would rather do adventures together. We guail and chuker hunt, duck hunt,, deer hunt with each other and love it.

Bucket list includes: Montana fly fishing, hiking a portion of Appalachian Trail, a good Colorado elk hunt.

Then we each get a cardboard box from Home Depot and fill with various items-t shirts, socks, toiletries, coats, etc...and bring them to St. Vincent De Paul. And of course deliver food to the food bank. It is very gratifying to do this as a family.

Combine a trip to Glacier National Park and fish the middle fork of the flathead.

You will have a hard time finding a more beautiful area of the world than Glacier

That has happened to me often. My Dad used to light into my arse as well. But he always spend time with me. As long as you spend time with little man and apologize when you feel you've gone too far, you're good.

Good thing about it is no matter how much you screw up they still love you just like no matter how bad they screw up you still love them. Especially at that age. It takes adults to screw up loving relationships.

Gonna get my gf's dad an American flag that flew over the capital. You can call your congressman and ask about it. They authenticate them also.

I've only looked into it briefly, but it is pretty cheap. Search reddit for the process

I dropped my pawpaw's machete from the Korean War into a bayou when I was young and stupid. He died, and it was one of the only things my dad had from him. We both searched for a couple of hours, and couldn't find it. Gave up, and he was feeling bad for a couple of days.

The next weekend, a buddy and I spent about 8hrs looking for it, and finally found it under 4ft of water and a foot of mud and leaves. He was happy enough to almost shed a tear, and I never got to borrow it again

Ah jeez, my father in law is dying of cancer, my dad is healthy but gettin old, and you guys all have my eyes leaking here. Life is way too short.

Adventures instead of gifts is a great idea. Also, OP, try to find out what his favorite toy was when he was a kid and then try to find one for him. Mine would love that.

My father is a mechanic and has every tool any man could have so I managed to find this for him from a mechanic friend. The volt meter also doubles as a circuit tester and will send power to a circuit for troubleshooting purposes to test whether it works.
