https://www.leatherman.com/skeletool-cx-19.html I don't like carrying around a heavy multi-tool and this one is perfect.

Masterbuilt smoker from Academy

Does he travel often? The Osprey Transporter Bags are fantastic.

Got my mom one last year along with a dehydrator. Another good idea though.

If he drinks, I have found my dad enjoys getting bottles of things he wouldn't buy for himself. Liquors, bitters, Luxardo cherries, and unusual mixers seem to make him happy at Christmas.

Depends.

...or, give him experiences.

Take him to the air show in New Orleans, buy him a ride in a few planes like a bomber or a biplane.

My dad misplaced his pocket knife so I bought a new one of the same model. Because of that, he will find it between now and Christmas I am sure.

I, for one, am asking for a new bug-a-salt. My original's hopper finally broke. That thing has entertained me many-a-night on the back porch.

My dad is getting a new pocket knife from me.

For my own present I would like my children to clean their damn rooms and learn to put the new toilet paper on the holder rather than setting it on top of the empty roll.

As a Dad, and an old one, I always like getting tools, pocket knives or something that goes with my grilling ensemble. Nothing wrong with Cabelas, Bass Pro or Academy gift cards either.

I have the Bug-A-Salt. Best $50 gift I've received in a long time.

If your Dad is 60+ this would be super cool. As a old man, I would take this as a A+ or a fishing trip with you. I'm 61.

Bought my FIL a Dillon Precision BL550 (progressive reloader) a few years ago.

He's loved it

Would help if you mentioned some of his hobbies or things he's interested in pursuing.

I can understand your pain. I usually get things prior to my birthday or Christmas and it is often the same things my wife bought for me as a gift. It's uncanny how that happens sometimes.

When I was 14, my dad and I were duck hunting on our lease in the marsh. I was cleaning the ducks with his prized knife he had since his college days (I think his dad gave it to him). After cutting the ducks, I’d swish it around in the water to rinse off like I had always done. Well one time it slipped out of my hand and sank, never to be found despite lots of attempts.

I felt so bad and was terrified to tell him. I expected a thrashing when I told him but instead, his face dropped and he said he wasn’t mad, even though I knew he was. Never yelled or raised his voice.

Earlier tonight my 3 year old kept getting out of his bed and coming into my and my wife’s bedroom. I got angry and yelled, and he walked back to his bed. It’s been about 30 minutes now and I think he’s finally asleep. I’m sitting in bed feeling like crap for yelling at the only person in the world who believes I hung the moon.

For Christmas, I think I will tell my dad that he taught me how important it is to be patient and think before reacting when I lost his knife. God knows I wish I had realized that lesson 35 minutes ago.

I know as a dad, I’d appreciate that.

Gonna hug my buddy extra tight in the morning.
