2 cranes, 2 snow geese and a boot lip. 4 steaks and a gumbo.

West TX. No guide.

We’ve been working over here for over a year. Got our foot in the door last season and built on some landowner relations to get more access this year. We’ve gotten 5 cranes so far in 2 hunts between 2 guns.

Even though the meat is so good, do most still only breast out the Cranes?

The legs have some stringy tendons in them. We throw those in the gumbo pot.

That’s awesome Clyde, did a guided hunt in Amarillo last year. Limited on cranes with 8 men. Was great

Decoying cranes is the most challenging wing shooting I’ve ever found. Damned things are way harder to decoy than ducks and geese. When it works though it is as satisfying as any hunting I’ve ever done.

Most people will only ever get a chance with an outfitter and that fine but doing the work yourself is at a entirely different level.
