This is from estimating software in your zip code:
9 year gas ~$900
9 year electric ~$775
9 year gas ~$900
9 year electric ~$775

Just guestimating... $400 for a new water heater plus 2 hours labor @ $75/hr. So $550 total?
Am I anywgere close? I dont know what plumber rates would be in your area. Usually first hour is higher than subsequent hours as well.

40 gal install in attic last fall was $1250
Removed old in the closet, installed new in attic. Access was a bitch and it was tight under the house. Other 2 quotes we got were similar in price.

Not bad. I installed one last year in a 2 story house in the attic. Just getting new one up and old one down worth the price. Plus you have to be carfull not to ding walls or stairs never will do it again. Just my opinion

hate to muddy the water, but what about a Rinnai water heater?

Will depend of if its a new install or not for cost of running pipe and electric. Other than that, if its just a replacement it is a very easy job. Did mine about 2 months ago in my attic and it took about 2 hrs.
