So I built a fire in the fireplace earlier and have been burning splits and noted to my wife that it's got a nice bed of coals - we could get some hangers and roast hot dogs and marshmallows for dinner with the girls (5yr old twins).

She asked what Ibwas talking about. She has never heard of using clothes hangers to do that. I guess since she was a child all they ever used was storw bought things with handles and two or three prongs on the end to skewer things.

Someone tell me that I'm not the only person who uses clothes hangers to cook over the fire like that.

Am I that redneck, or is she just that gucci?

It's been a long time since I did, partially due to the fact all coat hangers now are plastic.

Coat hangers, branches off trees, pretty much anything that would hold the weight and not burn

Where are you getting metal coat hangers from?

A bag of long bamboo skewers are only a couple of bucks...

We use metal coat hangers for hot dogs and marshmallows. That’s what we used when I was a kid as well

Coat hangers do the trick but I like a good stick that has has 2 prongs at the end then sharpen them up with a pocket knife.

Yes. But burn them off first before putting marshmallows on them. Some have coatings these days.

Did this a few weeks ago at my brother's house with my nieces. Literally everyone did it when we were kids.

For larger gatherings, you need a rake.

I did it long ago, would burn off as much of the plastic coating before cooking anything on them. Now you can get a extendable metal fork for dirt cheap, works better than any coat hanger. Really fancy kits have multiple accessory ends to cook burger patties, smores, etc...

The place I get my dry cleaning done will sell them for a quarter apiece last time I bought some. But that was a couple years ago. Probably 75 cents now with inflation the way it is.
