Killed this one this morning on 7 acres in the city limits. Shot with a crossbow, I know that's cheating. Still proud of him in city limits. Any guesses to what caused the old wound on his neck?

Nice buck with any weapon.

Looks like a bullet took a furrow out of his neck. You weren't the only guy after him in that neighborhood

Nah, it's not cheating if it's a legal method of take. Hell of a buck regardless of what you shot it with. I'd be proud as all hell of of it.

It’s likely that 50% or more of the bow hunters that say using a crossbow is “cheating” have a primitive weapon chambered in a round that’s been developed in the last 50 yrs.

ETA: they’re a POS if they claim you shouldn’t use a crossbow but don’t use a long bow themselves.

Or they shoot a compound bow with a GPS/Rangefinding sight on it.

Athens, Al.
I'm fixing to turn 52 and never bow hunted in my life. Started hunting in my early 40's when my son wanted to. Too late in life to worry about learning to shoot a bow. I bought the crossbow to hunt public land in Southern Illinois with my BIL, but that never happened for one reason or another.

Eta: no feeder around and no food plots, just hoping deer pass thru going somewhere else

Shoot me an email…

I live in Athens, and have a small piece of land we hunt inside city limits as well.

OK, you shot this deer on a relatively small piece of property within city limits with a crossbow and you're saying he dropped somewhere on your property......or did you have to go searching for him after he was hit and retrieve him off your property.

I've seen rifles drop deer almost right where they are hit by the shot, but deer hit by an arrow always bolt, many for a good distance before finally going down.

Either way, nice deer for hunting out your back door.

I shot him at 37 yards north of my stand and got lucky that he ran in a half a circle and went down 25 yards west of my stand.

No one's land was encroached on.
