I like it when they make "satellite blinds".

You know, go ahead and be the guy that builds the next blind 300 yards from your "home blind" so that you can keep people out further.

Let your friends hunt your satellite blind from time to time to keep Cicero out.

I did the same thing when I was told about while riding in the boat. I just thought they had 2 blinds to hunt different winds.

Hell naw man, we hunt both them blinds at the same time, son. Them ducks aint near bout to skirt the edge of them decoys.

1. Cat Lake is owned by state (ie public) A. Yes
2. It used to be owned by private rednecks A. No, always public, though there is argument over exactly where the line of public/private ownership is, based on waterlevel.
3. Rednecks built blinds on Lake and claim them as private A. Yes
4. ciceros build blinds on lake/hunt redneck blinds A. No, Ciceros hunt blinds built by others.
5. rednecks burn down cicero blinds/shoot at them/etc A. Sort of. Redneck burn newcomers' blind, which they believe are to close, or which "cut them off".
6. LDWF/state police does nothing A. Correct

It's like this:

Locals claim "spots"
Build blind on said "spot". May have several or just one.
If another hunter builds blind too near, it gets burnt.

Ciceros just ride up and hunt an empty blind. They don't wanta burn 'em. They want to hunt them!

Actually, from my small experience, Ciceroing is not too frowned upon as long as you politely leave when "owner" shows up, at least that's what the blind "owners" I know have told me-- but then again they are more reasonable types. I've done it once or twice, but no one has come to the blinds so I can't really say.

LDWF/police do nothing. I'm not sure but I do not think permanent blinds are outlawed there. And the style of hunting is unlike anything you will see elsewhere. Blinds every couple hundred yards, brushed with pine trees, and each with like 500-1000 decoys. LOt of 2 liter bottles, bleach jugs, etc as decoys.

It's wild out there!

ETA : Sorry, Mung! I type slow-- looks like you covered it!

Interesting thread. I made my maiden voyage to Catahoula Lake this year with a frind of mine that told me the Cans were thick. I always wanted a big bull Can for the wall so I went right after Christmas. This guy has a camp on the lake and has like 5 blinds out there. All of them handed down from his dad and others in the camp. I got the rundown on the unofficial rules of the lake and it's pretty much like everybody has been posting so far.

There are about a bazillion blinds out there. At least 300 yards apart. More coke bottles and Clorox jugs painted than I have ever seen. Most painted black. I bet there are fist fights at the garbage cans on trash day. Each blind has at least 300-400 of either jugs or 30 year old Flams.

Blind brushing materials are green pine limbs. There are no limbs on any pine tree in a 3 parish area within the boundary of Catahoula Lake.

There are thousands of Cans and they raft up in the middle and when a boat or airboat runs, it is on.

Regulars don't like Ciceros but understand that they can't hunt every blind so it is what it is.

If you are hunting in a blind that is not yours and the owner is a regular of the lake, there is going to be a confrontation.

If you build a blind out there and it is not approved or accepted by the regulars, it is gonna get burned or cut up.

Last, I would only hunt that place with a boat blind or ride in by wheeler. I think the hunting would actually be better setting up in a cove anyway and nobody will frick with you in a boat blind. The duck food is better in the coves and you don't need the volume of decoys. You can also set up better and if it is windy, that is where the ducks want to go anyway.

Our camp is at Cross Bayou across the highway, they hated the "Coonass Invasion" when we moved up there (with about 4 other family camps) about 20 years ago.

This thread makes me want to become known as the guy who went all black ops style and burned down the entire motherfricker.

"Yeah man, that dude DMATB. He burned down every blind on the whole lake in one night."

"even the ones that have been there for 50 years?"

"Yep, place is a free for all now."

It wouldn't matter if you burned all the blinds, the regulars would still enforce their "spots"

this is the same as LSU tailgating spots

Yep, no love for ya'll. Not sure there is any love for NE LA necks either but then again, those guys hardly venture down that way much. We could have hunted the place easy when we were running the North LA rivers but it never really appealed to us to try Catahoula.

We had some coon asses from Opelousas that waded out to edge of our decoys one year and started shooting birds as they started to circle at first light, first flight of teal we waited until they passed them, the second flight they shot thru our spread and killed some 2 liters, 3rd flight we returned fire, they left.
