What say you, OB? The way I see it:

Pioneer 1000 pros:

It's a Honda/more reliable.
Less to break.
Gear driven transmission
More cc's than the HD9

CanAm pros:

Nicer machine overall
Rides better/more comfortable
Looks cooler

Based and what I'm seeing, the prices are about the same.

The Honda will cost you thousands of dollars less down the road. No brainer to me.

Both in Stock? We have had a Polaris on order since last July.

Good luck with those POS bikes. So glad to be rid of my 1000XP. Word of warning. The new rangers have a brake pressure switch. When it goes out and it will it will leave you wherever you are. There isn't a bypass. I would keep an extra in the bike just in case. That fricking thing left me stranded twice in the middle of nowhere.

I don't know much about the Can-Am but I would go with a Yamaha RMAX4 1000 over the Pioneer.

I have a RMAX4 1000 and I really enjoy it. It's been in mud, Moab and utility work around my land and it's a good machine.

Honda . Always first choice. Dependable and better resale.

Pioneer 1000 is a UNIT

CanAm's cab is comfy but thats about it.

My pioneer is 4 years old and has never left my property. Routine maintenance is done by me in my shop, never had an issue with anything in 600ish hours.

My buddies canam stays on his trailer it seems, always dropping it off or picking it up from the shop with issues.

I've always said "If honda could adopt canams comfort that would be the best bike known to man"

I'm leaning towards the Pioneer. I also should've clarified - this machine is for working around my property and doing stuff at my deer lease. I don't have any intent to mud ride, beat it up, or anything like that.

Looked at those and it seems they get great reviews, but there isn't a local dealer and they're pretty expensive compared to the Honda and CanAm.

Oh ok. Dealer support does make a difference but man those Wolverines are bad machines.

What year model?

nm, i just watched the video on how to get this taken care of. definitely my year model(s) i think i will order a spare one to keep in mine. i have absolutely loved my 1000xp so far.

*update*

literally bought one just to have it in my cab, thanks to you. you probably just saved me a hell of a headache. seems easy enough to replace. supposedly you should let it sit overnight with the cap off of MC so any air can float to the top in that timeline. if i ever get stuck, looks like i'm up for an extra night out!

Spoken like a man who hasn't been burned by BRP yet.

It'll happen.

It always happens.

My 800 grenaded at under 20 hours. Still had the teats on the factory tires.

They'll never get me back.

My 650 outlander hasn’t given me any trouble in over 4 years. Probably about time to change the factory oil
It’s been an awesome bike but 90% of its life it’s been on gravel atv trails on wma’s. About 2-3 times a year I’ll take it down a sloppy trail to get to one of my rut areas. I also don’t use it for anything other than hunting. It sits in the shed all off season.

I’ve had a Canam Defender xmr since 2019. Zero issues. I know guys with rangers and pioneer. Much prefer the Canam…I love the size, comfort, storage, layout, etc. Rangers are too cramped for me and I don’t like the Honda layout and feel. Haven’t had to deal with BPS bc I haven’t had any issues. Use mine for working and hunting.

Only one year in on my Pioneer 1000-5, but love it. Guys posting on the Honda forums have 15K+ miles on theirs with only routine maintenance. Reliability was sold me, most backyard ATV mechanics will tell you Hondas are the way to go.

I test drove the HD9 yesterday and man, I gotta say, they are way more comfortable than the Pioneers. They also ride a lot better. I’m gonna go check out a Pioneer 1000 forest edition next week, but that test drive definitely made my decision harder. The seats on the can am are great.
