as in what's hot each season?
is there anywhere to fish other than the causeway, trestles, and twin spans?
i'm not asking for honey holes or any secrets, but this lake has never been kind to me.

You have to put in years of time in order to be successful in the lake. It would take a book for you to understand it. Just go and try different techniques and put the time in if you really want to learn it.

From what I understand, the Lake is too shallow to have fish year round. It gets too hot in the summer. And too cold in the winter. And there's not enough tidal movement to keep the oxygen and salinity levels right.
So, basically for specks there's a window of a couple of months in the fall and a couple of months in the spring. But, it's not every fall, and not every spring.
The guys I know who do well along the bridges are really particular about which sides of the bridge they fish, on falling vs rising tides, times of year, etc. That part is a complete mystery to me, and to most people I think.

It all depends on winds. Steady north or northeast winds, the north side will be clearer than the southshore. South winds, complete opposite.

lake ponchartrain is its own special thing, you need to fish it completely different then you do the marsh.
in the marsh you swim your baits or you use top water or corks, but in the lake, if its not in contact with the bottom your not going to catch much.
fish the lake as you would pitch jigs for bass. fish tight to structure (pilings) and keep in mind all you want to represent is a shrimp skipping a few inches off the bottom then hitting bottom again. most times they grab it on the fall and when you pop it again it feels hung but that's the fish on your line. let it hit bottom and count to 3 then a quick pop to lift the bait 6-8 inches off the bottom and let it free fall to bottom again.
people also catch "very aggressive" fish by trolling the trestles but jig fishing is a much more reliable way to catch and will much more productive.

Glad I am not the only one that feels this way, every time someone talks me into fishing the lake I end up regretting it.

I used to do really well in the lake when they still had the little oil and gas installations out of the Bonnabel launch. Anyone know if the shell pads are still down there, still hold fish?

used to do real well at the causeway crossovers when i lived in mandeville...market bait on the bottom under the midspan crossovers. you wouldnt catch a box full but the ones you did catch were big
plus a few puppy drum and rat reds
plus you were in the shade

Right now all I'm gonna say is Matrix shad in Magneto on 3/8oz jigheads. 4 miles off north shore on the causeway and 1 mile off the south shore on the trestles.
If you can't catch with this info you may as well just hang it up

I don't know the info about what seasons are best, but I've heard lots about the spot by Seabrook where the Industrial Canal dumps out into Lake P that there's a pretty deep hole there that produces some good fishing.
There's also the artificial reefs that should be marked with buoys. Here's the GPS coordinates to find them
