I worked there for awhile too. The hunting manager and the guy in charge of the gun counter were pretty bad. I heard they hired some better guys since then.

I was there form Aug 09- May 10 and I know they fired the gun counter lead when I was there and hired a new guy. Said "new guy" tried to sell a lady a box of 9mm Luger for her 9mm Makarov.

I got yelled at by him for calling him out in front of a customer. He was special and I heard they let him go too

I went for the sale this past weekend. There was a line of people who took numbers, and no one was helping anyone out. They had 5 people up front hanging out around the register laughing and shooting the shite. A guy I was with bought a .22 Assalt rifle for his grandson and got them to put a scope on it. Everytime the back door opened we could see him joking with a fellow employee. Took 30 min to put a scope on.

It's good to hear a good story like that. It kinda brings them back up to par with me.

I am glad you had a great experience. I ordered most of my husband and two son's christmas gifts from them online (as well as some extended family) two years ago and they shipped wrong items and messed up my order so bad that I had them send the rest to the store instead of my home. When I went to the store to pick up the order they could only find part of it. They then had me fill out paperwork and said they would ship the rest when they found it. I never received those items and was so disgusted with all of the calls and run around I received the first time that I just did not worry about it and quit shopping there.

That's great to hear. I don't have any particular problem with Cabela's in general, but they need better marketing when opening new stores. Someone forgot to tell them LA is near saltwater when they first opened...and there aren't many walleye swimming around these waters. But since, they have improved their selection. Still not up to par, but better. Good to hear they treated you right.

I live just south of Hattiesburg, MS, and we only have Gander Mountain. FRICKIN JOKE!!! Supposedly there's an Academy coming this year, and I guarantee when it does, Gander Mountain will have to shut down within months. That is the most overpriced place, and they're absolutely ignorant about things. I tried to buy swivel seats there the other day, and they had a great selection. Unfortunately, none of the swivel bases fit the seats they were selling...ANY of the seats they sell. Idiots. I drove to Gulfport Academy and bought the seats and the swivels for much less than Gander Mountain, and they actually had the right size.

You guys are lucky to have such a selection of places from which to choose. I have to drive to either DS of Pearl MS or Mobile for BPS, Gonzales for Cabelas, and either Slidell or GPort for Academy.

worked at the Cabela's guncounter for a year.

They must have employed new people because this never happened when I worked there. I am surprised they are doing this, but glad to see them stepping up

Bass Pro kicks their arse,
but thats a great story and I'm glad to hear when stores do the right thing.

Read an article a while back in Field and stream where on of the writers sat in with a call center. One of the things I remember is a guy wanted to return one of those toilet seats that have the fishing lures inside of the plastic. He had already used it, but they let him send it back because he was a valued customer

Also, Gander Mountain: I applied for a part time holiday job there this December. They had already filled up, and I was in there a couple weeks after. I watched a lady ask where 12 gauge shells are, and the "employee" had no idea what they were. Another employee was asked, and he was clueless as well. All of this happened 10 feet to my right while I was sitting there picking up some shells for duck hunting

For some reason this made me .

I'm sure there are going to be some negative stories, but the fact that this regular poster came on here with an authentic example of customer service that is TRULY above and beyond anything and anyone else out there, they've got my respect. Been getting into handloading and will be in Cabela's next week buying everything that I can from them. Think I'm going to mention that I read this story on Tiger Droppings Outdoor Board. Things like this earn customer loyalty.

Just got back from making the exchange. All they did was transfer the paperwork then exchanged at the register, simple as that. One downside is I bought about 50 bucks worth of 9mm ammo that I can't return, but my buddy will buy it off me.

Btw, I wasn't implying on my post that Cabelas is any better than other stores. Just saying they went above and beyond on this situation. U don't see that very often.
