Coyotes can absolutely take down a full size deer. It is just not very common.
Studies have shown that they can effect deer populations in some areas. In other areas, not so much.

How do you go about NOT shooting them in the trap?
We've killed 23 in the same trap over the last 4 days. All shot in the trap. Take it FWIW.
I would keep your traps baited during the week with the trap open. Then when you're there on the weekend, set it.

"Outlaw" is/was a term used to describe artists that fought for control and creativity of their music. Guys like Willie and Waylon fought to break away from the Nashville mold.
On the other hand, guys like Eric Church sing about chewing tobacco and Nascar, and brag about smoking weed.

Talked to a US Fish and Wildlife Service LE guy that busted a dude digging up sea turtle eggs. He said those things can go for $60/dozen at high end restaurants. Sea turtles usually lay over 100 eggs. That's a lot of dough.
