The gun I want is the browning xbolt. I plan on putting a leopold vx3 on it. I love everything about browning and that's what I want.

What I can't decide is between these two calibers 30-06 or .308

This rifle will be used for deer only, so I'm not 100% sure which would be better. The longest shot on our lease is 125 yards.

either would be fine, as would a 7-08

30-06 has killed more living things than all other centerfire cartridges combined

I have the X-bolt hunter in 30-06 with a Zeiss Conquest. Hasn't let me down yet. I just wish I had gone with a higher power scope than the 40.

30-06

.308 is vulnerable to shortages if/when threat of gun control and people start trying to stockpile again

How's the recoil on this rifle?

Thought long and hard about these. Just prefer the look of the browning

Does it give you trouble at 125?

Great choice in rifle... I have and use .30-06 & .308.... I tend to grab my .308 more, especially if I'm in a lock on or a climber b/c of the reduced recoil. I use 150 grain in both calibers.
My .308 is also more accurate from a steady benchrest. For me, I chose accuracy and reduced recoil over the extra "knock down " power (which is still close)...

Recoil will be negligible with both calibers in an Xbolt rifle. I sighted in an Xbolt hunter 30-06 this year for a buddy and loved it. I personally grab my .270WSM Xbolt medallion for deer hunting and it's also a sweet shooting rifle.

I also have the Xbolt Hunter with a Zeiss Conquest but mine is in 308. I love everything about it. It's my favorite gun to hunt with.

Either one is great. I prefer the .30-06 for better performance with heavy bullets.

Like someone else said, .308 is popular with the tactical nerds and is subject to panic buying while the .30-06 is mostly used strictly for hunting now

Off topic, but would you happen to drive a big white Tahoe/Yukon/Escalade? I was on my drive to work this morning and saw a personalized plate that made me think of your username.

I have the A bolt 7X08 in stainless + composite and love the low recoil and great performance. The wife and kids can handle it with ease if the need arises.

I have it topped with a swarovski scope with a ballistic turret for long range shots. The gun is very versatile.

I have been approached several times at the range wanting to know if I want to sell it. My gun loves this ammo. The holes are often touching.
