I bought a KSG just because....I keep a pistol grip 870 behind my nightstand. I will put the KSG under my back truck seat sometimes if I travel.

The overall length for the keltec is 26”. I’m looking for something around this length for where I’m going to keep it.

I wouldn't say better and leave it there. Both the M4 and The 1301 are great defensive shotguns. But 1 is build to survive an apocalypse and the other is a lightweight shooting machine. So there are pro's and con's to both guns. You can't go wrong having either one in your arsenal. And to throw in a "cheaper" option the Mossberg 940 tactical is intriguing to me. But it's pretty new. I'll be interested to see how it performs long-term.

Wut

Shotgun is far better for close range home defense. It doesn’t penetrate walls into other rooms and is more forgiving on accuracy in a stressful situation

You think a shotgun is easier for a newbie to shoot than an AR15?

Yes. My fiancée couldn’t hit a target consistently with my pistol or AR but she did with a shotgun. So I got her a shotgun for home defense for when I’m not at home

Man, how dangerous is Abita Springs?!? You might want to consider moving if you feel like you have to roll that heavy in your own home. Or as mentioned before, is this just an excuse to buy another gun? If so, buy whatever you want or one of each!

Before anyone gets their panties in a wad, I say that as a guy that had to pull a shotgun on a guy trying to break in my parents bedroom window when I was kid. Just my mom and I at home with my dad at work.

Haha. It’s not dangerous, not yet anyway. But yeah, I do sort of just want another gun.

I would move if I thought I needed half of that in my house for self-defense.

I get it, but it only takes one nutjob. I’d rather be prepared than sorry. I don’t assume I’ll need all four guns at one time. I have them in different places depending on different scenarios based on points of entry. I’ll probably never need them, but that one time I do….

Just my personal opinion, but I've yet to find any bullpup, shotgun or rifle, that I've liked. I had the opportunity to shoot a buddy's AUG about 10 years ago and was excited as hell before. But when I got on the gun and got a few mags shot, I was very disappointed. Been the same feeling with every other bullpup I've ever shot since.

I saw the KelTec KSG 7 or 8 years ago and thought it was the coolest thing ever and just had to have it. I knew it was gonna be a handful to shoot because of it's small size and light weight. But I shot maybe 200 shells through it over 2 or 3 separate trips to my spot and put it in the safe for years. It's just brutal to shoot, but for home defense it would def do the job. However, I'm of the opinion you should practice as much as you can with the firearms you are either carrying or have designated for home defense and I just didn't feel like punishing myself to go practice with the thing. Ended up selling it a couple years ago to my neighbor.

I have a Fn SLP that I think is the bee's knees. I also have a rifled barrel for it that will keep Federal 300 grain slugs in 2 inches at 100 yards

Screw that. Get an 870 with buckshot or slugs.
Anything you hit is going down.

For me, the sheer loudness of an AR15 indoors makes me not want to use it for home defense. In my mind, a 12 gauge wouldn't be quite as as loud or disorienting. I own both but rarely shoot the shotgun and never shoot either without double muffs and earplugs.

FWIW I have two pistols in my house, one upstairs and one downstairs. Hollow point 9mm and 10mm. I feel like that’s enough. My hood is safe.

My 88 has an 18" barrel, if you installed a pistol grip, you wouldn't be too far past 26"

It's a workhorse of a shotgun. And for home defense, you're not going to drop a lot of money for an 88. I would certainly trust the 88 over a Keltech for dependability.
