Hmm, it will be for me. Don't assume everyone is from Baton Rouge!
It isn't a day trip from Little Rock. The only way I'd consider it a day trip is if I lived in the Ozarks. Are you from Russellville?

if you are gonna get in the water, I would suggest water shoes. regular shoes and you be getting little rocks out every few minutes. wore water shoes last year and never had a problem. trust me on this one.

Call get water level at Ponca. Buffalo can be fun when water is up (comes up fast after rain and goes down just as fast.) If its low it will work the hell out of you. Try the Mulberry, close to the town of Ozark, a little more challenge, I think we put in at Byrds rentals. Take scenic highway 7 up to Jasper, take a left to Ponca for Buffalo

We always did Mulberry and put in and camped at Byrds too. You've gotta watch the water levels there too. We've never had it get too low, but it has damn sure been too high.

Also, if you partake in any other intoxicating activities, avoid them for the day. Green jeans and local LE are active out there.

Thanks.
Hate to hijack this thread, but has anyone kayaked the upper Amite (or one of the others) from the state line south? I'm looking for a trip like that where I can fish and kayak.

We did the Mulberry when it was raining, should have known when they asked if we wanted insurance. We laughed and said we will be ok. They said no, the insurance is for our canoes. The owner came in with the report before we left ,it said it was "scary". That's when the Mulberry is a blast.

Yep. We've done it in the rain before too. It gets rolling pretty quick. We used to go every Memorial Day for a few years in a row. It was alway a good time.

We use to do the Big Piney every year & it's a blast but haven't been in a couple years

How far are you talking? I don't know that anyone does pickups like they do up in Arkansas, but I'd definitely be interested. I wonder if you could find secluded enough places to camp and float the whole thing.

Who do you call? Or is there a website with water levels?

We put in at Ponca right at some concrete structure. There would have been no way to put in higher. Really enjoyed it until the sleet came. Would love to go back.

I think that's the "bridge" mentioned in the water level reports. The time I went, it was too low, so we had to put in at Pruitt. Still an awesome trip, but I still want to do the upper part one day.

The Buffalo river is one of my favorite places to float in the south. It's very pretty, quiet, and that clear clear water you associate with mountain streams. Worth the trip, my suggestion is go and put in/take out any place they are all good. Have floated the entire river from start to finish many times.
