Buffalo River Float

I started a thread on here a couple of weeks ago about doing a hike somewhere in arkansas, and me and a couple buddies finally decided that we would rather do a float down the buffalo river. This is where we plan on going, 3 day float, sounds reasonable. Does anyone have any experience with this area? Any suggestions of things that might go wrong, things to avoid, things to bring? Both of my friends have experience camping, I sadly do not, and we don't really want to go into this too blindly. Any help or advice is much appreciated.

I've done it. Bring the below for sure:
Water proof bags for sleeping bags
Extra tent(s)
Wolf chili
Fritos
Toilet paper
Very small crawfish crankbaits
Lots of fire starting devices
Beer
Old Charter
GPS

Bunch of friends did a Kayaking trip a couple weeks ago. If you need more info, let me know.

I've never done a multiple day float before, but I would approach it like I do most camping trips. With a Murphy's law mentality. I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

Damn fine list. I've done it several times. The main thing you want to do is make sure everything is water proof and you have straps to hold you ice chest lids shut. I've never made a trip without flipping my vessel. Of course I'm usually fairly well hammered whilst navigating the boulders.
And bring trash bags. They'll check your raft or whatever to see if you've got them.

I remember having to fish out two cases of barely floating Bud Light.

I would suggest you call the local canoe rental shops and ask about the water levels in the river. With all the rain lately the rivers are swollen.
This site will give you the current conditions: LINK
I would suggest hitting up the upper portion of the river if you are going any time soon.
The Buffalo is great, I floated it several times this year.
I think another poster mentioned it but make sure you bring dry bags to keep your sleeping gear and clothing dry. The risk of flipping the canoe is low unless you are running wild but the chance of rain is always there.

'Preciate all the advice. You think they allow pellet guns in the canoe? We don't want to hunt for real, but I can't say if we saw a live animal we wouldn't try to kill it and eat it for the hell of it

Check this place out. Buffalo Outdoor Center. Really good folks, or at least the owners years ago were. They did a really good job for us, plus helped us with car trouble.

IMO it is one of the most beautiful places to float/hike in the country, much less the south.
I think most have covered what you will need. However as someone else said with as much rain as they have been getting I would seriously consider cheking the river stages. We last went about two years ago and the river was high enough where they wouldn't allow canoes on it. I would suspect it is there now.

I did a 3 day trip down the Buffalo many years ago. Water was low and it was August and miserably hot. One of our 4 canoes had a transome with a 4 hp outboard motor. We strapped a canoe on either side of the motorized boat and pulled the last behind to cruise down the stagnant river in relative comfort. I would never do this trip without a motorized boat.

Man up and do the Mulberry. The list of supplies listed from other posters is good to go. Bring a life jacket.
