Because lots of animals with desirable traits have un-desirable traits. If a animal with great traits has one un-desirable trait it is never suppose to be breed? If that's the case how many animals would we have to breed.

Depends on the undesirable trait. In Dobermans, if they are tested for DCM and it comes back positive, it doesn't matter how good the good traits are, you just don't want to pass that on.

Same for hips, who gives a shite if a dog can fetch if he can't walk. You have to take each trait and determine what is best

If by from the O-T posters you mean Downshift, Whiskey and myself then you are confused. We are not usual O-T posters. That thread just happened to get us in it.

Then in that case I'm sure we both know what the other means

Sorry I didn't clarify. Here you go:

I saw the same posters I had a conversation with on the OT bumping the thread I referenced, so I decided to see if it was about my posts. Better?

So since I payed close attention to my dogs lines to see they have healthy parents but did not do the DNA testing I'm not doing something for both fronts? Am I still stupid? How do you know your dog doesn't just have mange? Did you get your dog tested or are you just going off what you see?

I was refering to this..
quote:

prone to cancer and if they have any sense whatsoever, they wouldn't breed. Eventually, those bad genetics disappear and you have the same type of dog that existed 100 years ago without all of the issues

We didnt breed cancer into existance and we wont breed it out.

Murphy, STFU. In two minutes of reading your posts I have realized two important things:

1. You are fricking retarded. Your logic behind testing for genes which may show a predisposition to cancer would make sense.....if we were all living in test tubes. Dogs are dogs, and you are an absolute dick for telling someone not to breed his/her dog for any reason.

2. You evidently don't do a fricking thing besides post on TD (>12,000 posts). Go make a friend or two.

You are doing more than a lot of people. I hereby declare you not stupid

Comments like this don't help. Do you know anything about these two diseases? They are completely different and easy to spot the difference. As a matter of fact, I did get his thyroid tested since that is the only known cause for his condition besides CDA.

Dude calm down. You dont have to explain yourself to "10-4". We understand that you have a dog with a genetic disorder. We understand that you took measures to try to breed him, only to find out about these genetic disorders. But please dont come over here acting like you know absolutely everything about breeding. Most semi-knowledgable people know about hip, ear, skin etc. problems in dogs.

That is where you misunderstood. I never had intentions of breeding him. I just explained why it was not a possibility in my eyes

Never said I did. I have some understanding, which apparently many do not.

Suppose somebody wants me to let my dog breed their dog and I say "fine, but I want $200 since you're selling these pups." Am I stupid then? I'm just asking since you're the authority on who's stupid and I dont wanna step into the stupid realm.

Many of the old school bird dog and retriever folks I know, bring the female to the male...

One school of thought is.....he thinks things like that just happen. And just happen at home
