They still use AFM, so I doubt anything has been done if it's not causing tons of failures.

Easiest solution I can think of is aftermarket tuner to disable AFM, but that doesn't fix the lifter itself, so I dunno.

I have a 2008 Sierra z71 with a 5.3l v8 that burned oil. Supposedly the AFM system would burn a little oil every time the cylinders switched back and forth from 4 to 8. Did lots of research and purchased a module that turns the AFM off all together. I love the Sierras but the engine issue is unforgivable especially after all the BS they put people through when it was a well known problem. Back to Ford or Toyota for my next truck.

I like the rims, especially when some tires get thrown on them.

10-4, thanks for the info. I need to research Chryslers MDS system in the hemi...mine is active and I use it frequently. Haven't heard any issues, but if it's a similar system to GM's AFS it's probably worth looking into.

First I hear of someone else with my same problem. Mine was a 2008 and I went with a new Tacoma and couldn't be happier.

The new AFM system is seamless. It works great. The new dodge AFM system works well also. They've figured it out.

GMs active fuel management issues would prevent me from ever owning one. Ever.
they never accepted fault and left they're customers hanging. Never rectifying the issue. frick GM.

On the GMs we put ls1 lifters, change lifter valley plate to get rid of solenoids.
Reprogram ecm.

Love the new truck OP.

That truck would look better 3" lower, IMO. Probably be just as functional offroad too.

that black is gonna be tough to keep clean when it gets dusty in the delta!....

That's a fact. I have a gray F150 with the black interior. Love that truck, but it's quite a bitch to keep clean... I'll clean it up after we pick cotton and the field work is winding down. Until then, there's no hope.
