My wife had one cross the road in front of her in broad daylight about 5 years ago in NW La.

She and a car coming the opposite direction had to brake for it. There was a third car as well. They all stopped and talked about it for a second. Everyone present agreed with what they had seen.

(Brown, not black)

You are correct, sir! There is no such thing as a black cougar. Black panthers are actually black jaguars which do not occur in the U.S. Jaguars occur in Mexico and Central and South America. The black is just a rare color phase known as melanistic.

Ha, ha, you are partially correct. Since Wakanda is in Africa, the black panther there would be a melanistic (black) leopard. Leopards are the African counterpart to cougars and jaguars.

Correct. I saw a cougar once off hwy 82 east of grand chenier. He crossed the road in front of my truck and stopped off the side of the road I stopped also and it was about 20 yards away. No doubt what it was. It wasn't real big but definitely a cougar. I also heard there were 2 somewhere on a farm near Klondike.

Just to be clear I meant cougars not black panthers around morehouse parish. Here’s the link LINK

Uh, pretty sure some jackass just killed a jaguar in Arizona last summer. At one time, the jaguar's range extended into southeast Texas and possibly even southwest Louisiana.

I think this is incorrect, you may be thinking of the Jaguarundi, a slightly smaller cat that ranges into New Mexico and west Texas, though rarely. Of course I will have to research this again, as I cannot recall for certain.

No, I'm not thinking about jaguarundis. I'm thinking about jaguars. Jaguars and jaguarundis still range into the southern US, although rarely, and historically did range further into Texas and southwestern Louisiana. It was the farthest east extent of eithers range, so neither was common, but there were in that region.

i don't remember reading about a shooting, but i do remember lots of reports of jaguars captured on trail cams and seen in southern arizona. so they're here.

A few cougars were spotted recently in Baton Rouge.

I found out the spot and wanted to see if it were true because I didn’t believe it but

Turns out it’s true!

Just head over to Cadillac Cafe and see for yourself

Old saying: All cats are black at night.
Yes, they are amongst us. One was sighted in Shanandoah recently. We had one on our property near Port Hudson a few years back chasing a doe. Keep in mind there range may cover 200 miles.

You may not be at the top of the food chain after all!

KPLC Link

Not related to the link but there was a story in the American Press 10-12 years ago about a horse in the Holmwood-Grandlake area South of Lake Charles that had large scratch marks on its haunch/back. Probably from a cougar. I could not find the story but definitely recall reading it back in the day.

If there are big cats around, they’ll show up on trail cams. Cameras are all over the country now. And we’re seeing very few pics from Louisiana and the Southeast.
Jaguars are in Southern Arizona some. Cat hunters have bayed them with hounds and taken pics.

I just don’t understand it. Thousands of trail cameras running 24/7/365 and we can’t get one damned cougar to step in front of it?

I literally posted a link with the news article and trail cam pic in this thread they got of the one in morehouse parish and confirmed by LDWF. They are here, I know it might sound like nonsense but cougars occasionally will roam over into Louisiana. Like someone said their range is 200+ miles.
