Just bumping this to say that Downshift has been dead on in this thread. Thank you.

Well shoot it with a tranquilizer and measure em and let it go.
Sounds pretty stupid doesn't it?
the idea of taking a picture of a buck was the stupid part.
Animals get tranquilized all the time.

My take on all this.
Great fish. Congrats
Now sone thoughts. I caught a big sow full of eggs almost 20 years ago that gave me the fight of a lifetime. Blew a jignpig completely out of the water and onto the lily pads over 5 ft away from where she hit on the first cast. Caught her 3 casts later and swore she was over 10. With no scale on me I headed to nearest scales to find out she was 9 even. She died before I could get her back into the lake. While she proudly hangs on my den wall now if I had it to do over I would have released her since A) She wasn't over 10 and B) Those genetically superior eggs would have led to many trophies for many down the road.
My only knock on the OP here is that he stated he already had a 9 1/2 on the wall. If she had been 10+ that would change things

Quick addenum
My ol man fished Lake Eufaula for over 30 yrs before he caught one over 10
Caught her in a Dec tourney and was able to weigh her and get her back into the water alive.
Says to this day the happiest moment ever fishing was watching that big ol' gal swim away.
That says alot to me. ;)

We were going to do that with the deer in my avi but the rats had already done work on one of his sheds by the time we found them
That can be repaired by the Taxidermist. A friend of mine had a mule deer that got burnt pretty bad in a house fire and it burnt the tips off of the horns. The taxidermist recaped it and fixed the horns back to original size.

Seems I remember a day where folks would do something like kill a deer, duck, or catch a fish and other folks would just high five and say"nice one". But frick that was back n the days where EVERY bass was killed and we didn't have stocking programs. You remember, the days with busting stringers and two folks carryng em out on a stick.
Not saying we return to those days where fish were abundant and ducks everywhere, But dammit, to think our current management practices are infallible and losing some of the enjoyment of another's success is just goddamn becoming obnoxious.

Jesus Christ, people!
It's a bass. It's a big bass. More bass will grow up to be big bass.
Y'all get a little ridiculous sometimes and take the fun out of hunting/fishing
Logic 1: don't take any deer that is not a mature trophy buck
Logic 2: don't take any mature fish, only small 1-3lb bass
Maybe I'm a simple person but that doesn't make any sense to me. I understand the fish breeding stock is the big mature fish, then why not let them mature?

There are plenty of ducks! I get tired of hearing this just because folks don't kill them in the same old tired arse spots that their pow pow did doesn't mean there are no ducks.
