I've also heard people damn near put them in the same culinary category as Gaftop

I'll eat the shite out of some gaftop. I have actually also heard that hardhead is one of the best fish to eat. I was programmed to hate them, though.

Saltwater cats are so nasty on the outside, though.

My favorites are:

Lemon fish
Yellow edge grouper
Yellowfin tuna
Triggerfish
Swordfish
Triple tail
Flounder
Other grouper (black,scamp,red,etc.)
Mahi

I see a lot of love for wahoo on here. I have never been a fan of it and have tried it plenty of times.

No favorite but my picks would be fresh grouper, cobia and snook.

Personally have found grouper to be one of the most overrated. Good redfish on halfshell over grouper any day

You need to kick your grouper cook in the nuts for whatever he did to the fish you ate. There isn't one part of a grouper that's worse than the best piece off even an undersized redfish. Trust me Bull.

Have to agree. Big grouper meh, but the Larry Flynt ones are awesome. Don't get the love for the cobia either. Love to catch them but not in my top 5, great grilled for tacos. Tilefish is good, I just don't target them enough to put them on my list. I get no joy playing with electric reels. Triggerfish and pompano pecan crusted with some brown butter. I'm waiting for some East Coast guy to bust in and say Bluefish or King Mack. Fresh Kings were going for $13lb last time I was over there.

Me either. I like to catch them, and I'll eat every one of them. But I also eat coons. I've kept a small king to eat, and it wasn't worth the trouble of cooking it. I know those guys swear by them and bluefish, but I'd rather eat a woodpecker. I agree on the fried triggerfish, can't say I've had it any other way. Also, I've only had it once, but bearded brotula is pretty awesome.

Forgot about them, but you're correct. Funny we get to argue over all these fish with the exception of a few are readily available to most, pretty sweet.

Cobia is great fried or grilled. Also popular for sushi.

Bluefish or King Mack, way too oily for me. Never liked either. Asians love them though. Kings were $13/lb for whole fish or fillets?

Steaks, sitting right next to the tuna.

Don't get me wrong I like cobia, it's in the top 10. I grill it for tacos, not a fan of it fried.

Can tripletail be blackened and still be good? I hear it's delicate.
La
ETA: Just had blackened tripletail at Babin's and it was great.

Hogfish are in the running for sure.

Triggerfish are as good as any snapper and very underrated. Probably because noone likes cleaning them.

Fresh tuna raw is the best though.
