tend to disagree with getting the pump first. They have a steeper learning curve and kick much harder.
agree with this. buy the best auto you can afford with chokes and go with it. Some of the less expensive pumps kick so bad they will damn make you gun shy.

upon further review if you are looking to buy an auto without a lot of expense go with the stoeger 2000(made by binelli) or the H&R auto..if you can find it

What size shells do you shoot in those guns?
Posted on 12/8/10 at 9:50 pm to mikeytig
I usually shoot 3" #2 shot at ducks, 3 1/2" BB shot at geese

Both guns? The pump and the automatic?

Find some guys with high end auto's who won't mind meeting you at a skeet range. Fit is EVERYTHING. If it doesn't shoulder smoothe you wont hit spit, no matter what the brand is. The Winchester SX3 is my gun. It fit me better than the others I was looking at. The Beretta A390 also fits me well. The Beretta Extremas and Browning Golds have too long length-of-pull for me. The new Benelli's fit me well also. Go for fit, not brand or price and you'll be hitting birds your buddies miss. For what its worth,if you talk to folks that do the S. American dove hunts where thousands of doves are taken, they'll tell you they were handed a Beretta A390/391. Take that for what its worth.

I've always been partial to Browning, because I grew up shooting my brothers auto5, so I think in the spring I'll be picking up a Browning Silver. Academy has em and they're supposed to be fantastic guns, so I've heard.

In my opinion which is not worth a ton, I would get a pump as your first gun. It takes time to develop the automatic sequence of fire, pump, fire. If you ever go hunting with a group and need to borrow a gun inevitably someone will have an 870 you can borrow. The pumps are relieable and trustworthy and very capable of taking game.
This is great advice. I actually just started hunting this year - I use a 20ga pump that I have had since I was a kid. It has been great for taking small game. I've also used it on a few duck hunts.

I swear I can shoot faster with my pump than with my auto. I have a Browning BPS and Browning Gold, both chambered for 3 1/2" and I use them interchangeably.

You can empty the SBE II before the first hull hits the ground.

Sorry to hijack, but are Benelli and Remington the only companies that make left hand eject?

I am in the same boat. Borrowing friends shotguns but now want my own. Good advice so far. What should I get if I am looking to duck, dove, and quail hunt? Also heard that the camo guns lose the camo if you get mosquito spray on it. What are some of the differences between models (Browning: maxus/Gold,Benelli: SuperBlackEagle/Nova, Baretta: 687-686 / A390-391)?
Sorry this is a lot. prob should have just started new thread. Advice

Again, it's goint to depend on your oprice range.

I mean the difference there is one is a pump and the other is an automatic, also $1,000 difference in price.
I shoot a Beretta al 391 (Urika 2). They run about $1,000. Some a lil mre some a lil less, depending on which one you get. I'm not a big cammo gun guy, I like the synthetic or wood stocks. But thats personal opinion.

The Browning BPS ejects out of the bottom.
