cant say that i have shot tons of shotguns but i have shot the Benelli Nova and SBE. Both are great guns and are very durable. If you have the coin then get the SBE - you will enjoy it for many many years.

FWIW, I did my own search very recently on buying a new semi-auto. I've had an Remington 870 pump forever, and I wanted to upgrade.

I test shot the Benelli SBE II, Beretta Xtrema 2, and Browning Maxus and Silver. I didn't fit the Xtrema 2 very well while shouldering and I've heard problems with the Benelli cycling differing shells in wet and dirty conditions. Plus, Benelli's are inertia-type and not gas like the Xtrema and Browning. The Browning Silver and Maxus shot like money for me, and I loved the look of the Maxus as well. I've had it for a while now, and I love it. No issues at all.

The Browning Gold was the 'it' gun for a while and they discontinued it for a while. The Maxus was introduced as the natural replacement.
