i love my Browning Gold its a little pricey though. It took a while for it to "loosen" up and eject light load 2 3/4" shells but after about 1,000 rounds it ejects light loads as well.

I started w/ an 870, and I agree there is a lot to be said for learning how to shoot w/ a pump first. its kind of like learning how to drive w/ a stick shift. once you know it you'll always appreciate the the auto, but will be comfortable w/ any type of gun you use.

I'd recommend the Stoeger 2000 also. I've never believed in using expensive guns in the kind of elements you are in with duck hunting.

Stoeger's Parent company is Benelli and a lot of the higher end Benelli technology is used in the Stoegers. They are very good guns for the price. Academy has them for $500 give or take.

I shoot a Moosberg 835i. Its a pump, yes. Its in black matt. Can throw any type of shotgun shell. Hunted autos growing up, browning atuo 5, the real ones made in Europe. Started with 16 gauge, then moved up to 12. I will not own another auto. Price range around 300.00. Will take a licking and keep on ticking. My kill ratio has deeply improved with the pump. And you don't have to baby it. My 2 cents.

I started with a Mossberg 835, upgraded to the Remington 870(both pumps), then got a Benelli Super Black Eagle when I was in high school. If you have the money, get the Benelli or Beretta to start with and you won't have to worry about it again, unless you find that you just like buying new guns...

You said you want the best, if that is truly the case look at either the Benelli SBE II or the Beretta.

Take them and feel them, put them to your shoulder several times. If possible go shoot each and see which one feels better to you.

Not sure about the Beretta but the Benelli's stock can be adjusted to fit you. I'm almost positive the Beretta can as well but I know the Benelli can.

When you buy THE best, it only hurts ONE time. Life is short, don't fight with cheap shite.

Wait, I want to change my answer.

If you really want the best, within reason, the Beretta o/u in 687 or 686 are the best. Again within reason.

I have a 686 and for dove and upland it is wonderful.
