re: Benelli v Beretta aesthetics and how we perceive them.

I came up with the philosphy that guns are very functional items. I am not enamored of "aesthetics" or even "tacticool" stuff. I like basics - near-mil spec AR-15 or M4, Sig pistols with no rail, Ruger revolvers (form follows function), SKS, 10/22, etc.
Having said that, I recognize that certain categories of firearm - and mainly we're talking about English double rifles and O/U shotguns - and there is a certain place for style and aesthetics in these things. But I'm not married to a particular style. I have no problems with this new gun from Benelli and I'll bet it shoots wonderfully - based on the company's past products.
I guess we'll see.

I'm with you on that but they make them look "newer" except for the SBEII, it looks fairly traditional. The Vinci line of shotguns are the ugliest, space age firearm I've shot.

Vinci is tough to look at. I would be torn, but the gun is a tool side of me would get over it if i shot it better than anything else.

But the Vinci doesn't shoot better. It doesn't even shoot better than the "antiquated" (by Vinci design standards) SBEII. Which goes back to how we perceive these guns.
I'm just giving my opinion, feel free to discuss.

Does anyone else think that Beretta is "the timeless, classic beauty" in the shotgun world and Benelli is "the affliction, white sunglasses douche" of the shotgun world?
Pretty much agree with this. The Vinci and Super Vinci are the ugliest shotguns ever made. It seems like Benelli is the rich white douchebag kid that tries to dress cool. The Montefeltro's are the only thing that Benelli makes that even looks decent. Beretta trumps Benelli in every way when it comes to looks, and neither are even in the same league with Browning. Browning makes handsome weapons.

I know why the benelli is supposed to be more reliable. I see it on paper like everyone else does. That being said I've hunted my whole life and I've seen what goes bang every time and what seems to make guns quit. The times my Brownings have quit working they were dirty. (Like 5 cases of dirty shite shells a bunch of oil and sit up for an off season.) Ive seen countless benellis quit too and nobody knew why. I cleaned my browning and it goes back to flawless function.
IMHO benelli has the best marketing strategy personnel in the game. They make a good shotgun but sell a bunch and for more money because of the marketing strategies.

Browning is not up for discussion in this thread.
Back to the original point. I've thought this for awhile even though I'm a huge proponent for the SBEII. My theory was on full display at the DSC convention over the weekend. The Benelli booth was full of flat ills, affliction, and white frame oakleys. The Beretta booth had a completely different vibe. "Old school" is how I would describe it. Jeans, button downs, waxed field jackets. I align myself with the later but gravitate towarda the SBEII for whatever reason.

We all know that King Ranch has 2 fold down sunglass compartments in the overhead storage and we all know that in one of those is a secret pair of white framed Costa's.

Pretty much sums up the modern day hunter, whether he shoots a browning, remington, winchester, so on and so forth. While I think that benelli over/under is ugly as shite, I wouldn't agree that overall benelli attracts more affliction tee's than beretta does as far as automatic shotguns go.
I've never owned a beretta over/under, always thought the older ones were beautiful guns. Most of the modern day over/unders seem to have lost a lot of their ancestors good looks since the rise in popularity of these flared forearms that look like a dickhead. Plenty of great looking/impeccable mechanically used over/unders on the market for much less than you will pay for a new quality over/under...

I think they're talking about marrying a shotgun. Otherwise I don't know why they care about aesthetics.
All I care about is if the flying thingies land on the ground/water when I shoot at 'em.

Beretta a400 is a better shooting shotgun than the benelli sbe2. Among the mainstream shotguns beretta makes the finest shotguns in all styles and gauges.

just my opinion. My buddy that I hunt with shoots a sbe2 and wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. I'm just partial to the feel of a beretta.

Which feel is that? The 5 extra lbs?
Posted on 1/21/15 at 11:19 am to OhFace55
What feel? The heavy as a box of rocks like you're holding a piece of angle iron feel?

smoother shooting and shoulders better. People shouldn't get offended when someone's opinion is different than theirs.
