If you could pick any brand bass boat to fish tournaments in, which make and model would you choose and why?

What he said.

Speaking of which my new gal arrives at the dealership tomorrow.
A couple of upgrades but nothing over the top ;)

Already? Wow

The P2 has been redesigned, but not enough for me to "upgrade".

The Bass Cats are a fine rig for sure! Its hard for me to tell the major differences in the models other than the length change.

Don’t think you could go wrong with any model bass cat

I have the Pantera Classic and absolutely love it. Know guys that have Cougar, Puma and the Eyra with little to no complaints on them.

Unpopular opinion but,

Give me a GatorTrax 20' Strike Series Bass boat w/ a 250HP Yami on the back.

Why?

Cause the hull is made with 3/16" Aluminum. Rock solid, built like a tank. Can handle the stumps and shite I'd undoubtedly encounter.

And, I can layout the interior however I want.

Yea, the glass boats are prettier and ride better. But at the end of the day I'm looking for durability and fishability.

Now, If I were sponsored then that would change everything.

Based on the best available 2025 fan-compiled counts for the Bassmaster Elite field, a reasonable general estimate is that Phoenix and Skeeter together make up close to half the boats, with Bass Cat, Ranger, and Nitro forming most of the rest, and a long tail of smaller brands filling out the field.

Estimated 2025 Elite boat counts by brand
One detailed fan tally of 103 Elite anglers produced the following boat-brand counts (rounded to the nearest whole boat), which you can treat as a good “general estimate” for the recent Elite mix:

Brand Approx. boat count Approx. share
Phoenix 28 ~27%
Skeeter 20 ~19%
Bass Cat 15 ~15%
Ranger 9 ~9%
Nitro 9 ~9%
Falcon 6 ~6%
Caymas 3 ~3%
iKon 3 ~3%
Vexus 3 ~3%
Xpress 3 ~3%
Blazer 2 ~2%
Gator Trax 1 ~1%
Lund 1 ~1%
Triton 1 ~1%

That same dataset shows 103 boats total, with all 103 running forward-facing sonar and a heavy tilt toward Mercury and Yamaha outboards, which tracks with broader commentary that roughly a third of Bassmaster/MLF pros are in Phoenix and roughly a quarter in Skeeter when you look across tours.

A recent fan-compiled breakdown of the Bassmaster Elite field (103 boats) found the following engine distribution:

Mercury: 51 engines (~50%)
Yamaha: 45 engines (~44%)
Suzuki: 7 engines (~7%)
All of this per Claude

Bass Cat Couger with hybrid 203 Champion hull. They made them in 2023 and 2024. I know there was some question about whether they would continue to make them going forward as they were obviously tracking sales versus other Bass Cat models.

They were running a special on the Eyra with two 12" graphs and LiveScope model of your choice. MK also had come out with the brushless quest Ultrex since I bought my first Eyra. And they.had changed the console to fit a 12" graph instead of having to run a mount.. Special also comes with two power poles, but they aren't much use in these highland reservoirs, so I had their cost taken off the bottom line
Just little stuff but added together made it more tempting to "upgrade" vs refit my current boat.
Added a hydraulic jack plate as well this time around. Eyras can get a little funny with weight changes so having a manual plate put me at a slight disadvantage.

Considered upping to the 300 R motor but was smart enough to talk myself out of it. But it WAS tempting

Now I will have no excuse not to hit 80-plus :)

You ever consider getting it with the SHO and flashing it to over 300?

The Yammies are good motors, but I always liked my motors like my women, black and fast

Colors?

Nearly the same with a few small changes

Gunmetal -cap
Black Fox -hull and insert
Coral -lightning bolt n trim

The coral stripe really pulls the orange out thats strewn through the black fox flake.

Also went with the dark grey hull, just to not show the mudline as well when in between washes

Just ordered the orange striping kit for the Merc to tie it all together.

Gonna be hard to trade my first “girl”….she’s been a great boat. Took her for our last trip Sunday and she rewarded me with a double on topwater, one largemouth and one spot.
That was a first ;)

There is a saying down here, "If you wanna go fast, get a merc. If you wanna get home, get a Yami"
