My Citica E’s are getting old and showing age. I’ve done a full clean on them, may replace a few parts, but looking to get a couple new reels. Since I haven’t shopped for them in years, who is making the best baitcasters in that price range (~$150) these days? This would be primarily for salt water.

I still prefer Abu Garcia. My Curado K's are good, but not as good as my AG's.

Curado K at that price range is a no brainer for me but I’m a shimano guy. Honestly all of them make a good reel in that 150 range, go to bass pro or cabelas and hold them and see what feels best in your hand then order the one you like best on amazon or eBay to avoid the markup.

Sound like my dad, he would get stirred up majorly when I clowned those bricks.
Lews is hands down some of the toughest and best priced reels on the market. I am throwing the lite and have been going on four years. My oldest just got serviced last month and it was a wading reel it’s whole life. If you can find a friend on pro staff it’ll save ya 65%.

Daiwa Tatula SV TW if you’re willing to go a few bucks higher, around $180

Shimano, and most of the big reel brands, are typically excluded in their sales. You can probably call them and get the discount but they have MAP restrictions.

I’m a Curado man and they are awesome. I just recently got a 13 concept Z and I will say it’s the best casting and smoothest reel I ever owned. Only time will tell how long it will last, but as for now I would rather my 13.

I only fish freshwater but picked up a 13 fishing Concept Z. It has Zero ball bearings. Pretty much designed for saltwater fishing. It’s very smooth. And I can cast farther with that reel than many of the other ones I have. It’s a little higher than your price point ($199) but worth it. I have a few buddies who do a lot of marsh fishing and after using one, they began switching all their rods over too the Z’s. I loved my so much I have picked up a second. They are very comfortable in the hand also.

I use my revo sx reels in fresh and saltwater. I hit em with the hose after a salt trip though. Abu makes an inshore edition revo with corrosion resistant insides. I’ve never had a bad experience with Abu Garcia. Been fishing with them all my life. Still have my first reel, an old 4600 ambassadeur. Had it double rigged fishing for trout this past weekend.

Broke down and got one of these bad boys the other day. Can’t wait to pull a hog out the brush with this thing.

IMO:

1) Abu Garcia REVO(stronger drag than Lew's)
2) Lew's(most bang for the buck)
3) Shimano (better than most store brands)

For $150, you can easily find a Curado K online. Great reel for the price. The Daiwa Tatula SV TW is a great reel too for the money.

If it were me, I'd spend an extra $50 and get a Chronarch. If you call Shelton's in Alabama, they will ship you one for $200. The Chronarch G is great for salt and the MGL is good for fresh. I use my MGL's everywhere except straight salt water.

Thanks baws. Lot to consider. Seems overall that there’s a lot of good options and it may be personal preference.
