What bait has worked for some of you in the past? I havent found the entrance point yet but the smell is horrendous. I also need to have the trap in a spot where I can shoot him once trapped, I'm not getting close to that burning electrical wire smell.

This little shite has been dicking around my shop for too long.

Please make a video (from start to finish) when you discover him in the trap.

My mother had the same problem at her house. I used canned tuna in the trap ( that was what she had at the time). Caught it the second night. I walked up to the live cage trap real slow with a moving blanket in front of me and laid it over the trap then I picked it up and put it in my truck. Carried it up to one of our farms and just turned it lose. It never did act like it was going to spray.
Shooting it will be easier but I woulder if it would still empty it’s stink sac once it was shot. I think it probably would.

Caught one at my dads houseboat in a trap with dry cat food. It was living under his shed close to husband house. With a dog and dog door it was a concern. 22 mag took care of the rest.

Had an issue years back and went and got a product called skunk away. Just sprinkled it around the building and didn’t have anymore issues with it.

I would think so as well.

On a side note...I can't smell skunk. Something in my nose/head prevents it. I've had hundreds of instances where I've been told it was very strong, close, and distinct...and nothing.

Anybody else have anything like that?

I shot mine to the head. He never saw me. Stink wasn't an issue. But I didn't waste time to haul him off and dump him in the woods.

I did see Billy the exterminator catch one and sneak up on the cage with a big blanket. Covers the cage and released the skunk alive elsewhere.
That's a risk

Well the consensus is clear, I'll go buy some canned cat food tomorrow. Tonight is a trial run with some hot dog wienie and Slim Jim as I didn't have time to get to the store.

For the poster asking for a video, if I catch him I will drag the cage with a long rope out to the pasture and exterminate. Since it was your idea you can have the choice of .223 or .22

Dry cat food.
You probably already know this, but they spray everywhere when you shoot them so keep your distance.

Question along these lines:

For the OP...we always used tuna fish to catch stray cats, but never caught a skunk, I'm assuming tuna fish would work on them too.

On the topic of skunks...I've heard that if they can't raise their tail, they can't spray...true or false? If true, is that the reason why you have to get the right sized trap so they can't spray while being transported?

#2...I've witnessed this (unfortunately) that if you shoot a skunk..eventually their muscles will relax and they will release their gland...spraying...but not really spraying...just releasing....If you're gonna shoot a skunk..what's the best way to do it so you avoid the spray/smell?

I do not like skunks at all....skunks,opossums, and armadillos (aka opossum on the half shell) are about the most worthless animals there are IMHO.

Had one at the camp a few years ago. I used canned tuna in a have a heart trap. I also tied a 50' paracord line to it. After I caught him I drug is arse into the woods and shot him in the head. The trap, rope, and skeleton are still right where I left him.
