Crosstex napoleonville storage facility is located at the intersection of La 70 and La 69. They store natural gas products. I am unsure of the depth of their wells in relation to Texas Brine's well. They are close enough though to possibly be effected by the brine cavern failure.

I'm a gambler... but not sure about this one...

one thing to consider though, even if it all collapses (which I hope it doesn't for all those involved),

let's think of the long term effect... (help me here, I'm just a dumbass)

1. full collapse (whatever that is)
2. cavities in domes are lower pressure, so above air and water are sucked in (along with camps?, boats, trees, roadways?, lake verret?)
3. cavities are filled with water etc
4. lake verret is filled with water from... where? gulf?

5. ??
6. profit?

I also wonder if people will be selling cheap, or holding on, hoping for a fat settlement ??

or hoping nothing happens... which is a good chance...

Yea if it is like Lake Pauloradiado then I (just a dumb redneck cop) see it being a hug hit to the enviorment. All that new salt water would kill the vegitation, cause erosion issues etc. Would be a huge hit to the economy there. For all involved I hope now is as bad as it gets.

FWIW, there's a lot (about a 1/4 acre) in Pierre Part on craigslist (posted yesterday) for 45k.

Seems high to me.. but maybe speculate on a settlement?

Haven't noticed that reported yet either.

is it small earthquakes causing these shifts? or is it the domes shifting that are causing the tremors?

Never thought of earthquakes causing this, possible

The Advocate article 8/9/2012

quote:

Louisiana Department of Natural Resources and Texas Brine Co. officials knew at least since January 2011 that one of the company’s salt dome caverns may have developed problems now suspected of possibly causing a large sinkhole and unexplained natural gas venting in northern Assumption Parish swamps.

I note that DNR secretary Scott Angelle submitted a terse three line letter of resignation on Wednesday. Could just be a coincidence, if you believe in coincidences.

Then again, Piyush will throw subordinates under the bush with a quickness. The guy on TOS who shills for the Louisiana Chemical Association said the parting was "completely amicable." That was before this story came out. We'll see how he tries to spin this news.

Didn't realize Bobby's real name is Piyush.

What is TOS?

and I agree... highly unlikely coincidence.

The Advocate article that NoDust referenced is a MUST READ.

No coincidence on that resignation, indeed.

That's pretty damning, but it's easier to put those clues together in hindsight. I'm sure there will be an investigation given the mystery around it. I can't speculate past that.

Say what you want about my earlier post, but I just got it confirmed from a solid source that this is indeed the reasoning behind the resignation.

I am no geologist or petroleum engineer but it seems like there would be very little if anything you could do to fix a leaking salt dome.

You could probably inject it with some sort of cement, but it would be pretty complicated. In my personal opinion, they should be reviewing that as an option for adjacent mines. They may be able to cement in a few in close proximity to provide stability. The cement would need a similar specific gravity to the type of salt in the dome.

That would be a lot of cement!

What about the impact it could have on the Atchafalaya levee system that runs close by? This could negatively affect all of South La.
