Get something like this green flashlight from Amazon.. It comes w/ an accessory to easily attach the flashlight to your gun. The light is not a 350 yard light like advertised, but for subdivision use it's plenty strong. You can find a weaker light for less money, but should still be good for short range. I like to have a second green flashlight to scan w/ instead of using my rifle. If hunting in a subdivision, I'd suggest using subsonic ammo that won't be as loud as regular high velocity ammo. CCI makes a subsonic hollow point load that's usually pretty easy to find. If you can't find it, I'd use CCI subsonic solids (it's labelled as regular or standard velocity, not subsonic, but it is subsonic). Both these loads are very accurate in all of my guns. Aim for a lungs/shoulder shot, NOT a head shot. An armadillo that's been startled/shot frequently will jump straight up in the air 2-3', then run off. That can be a problem if it runs off to your PETA friendly neighbor.

Much to my dad's disappointment, I shot several while dove hunting with him. No doves were flying. They all jumped about 4-6 feet off of the ground then ran off. 20 gauge. I was 12

Thank you very much. I did shoot a CCI round, but I don't know exactly what model it was. My wife only heard a ping noice and my neighbor across the street did not hear anything. This neighbor is not PETA friendly being they are tearing up their yard also.

It is illegal to be shooting the 22

Either man up, as in don’t be a puss. Or if that doesn’t work, get a badass air rifle like an Air Venturi avenger or avenge-x with scope and 4500psi compressor and a chronograph for tuning and it’ll shoot with about 48 ft-lbs of energy (about equivalent to 22LR CCI quiet-22 ammo). It will go through a coon broadside and it’ll penetrate the shell of an armadillo into its vitals. 100% legal in city limits too. Get the 25 caliber model.

Do you have a 4 wheeler?

I ride around on my 4 wheeler at night with a joint and a 12 gauge, not flashlight needed and they're so dumb that the 4 wheeler doesn't phase them.

I had some sod put down 2 weeks ago and those bastards have been wanting to root around in it, so I've been going on another killing spree.

Armadillos??

I've seen road kill as far north as Missouri and southern Illinois. I've also seen RK in South Carolina. Any of you seen them farther north? Little bastards just swim across the Mississippi and go.

I am at a RV rally in Hot Springs and there was an armadillo that came out of the woods. There was a man from Kansas walking toward it when it ran away. He said he has never seen a live armadillo before.

Buy a small undercounted laser sight to use at night. Easy to install and align. Just put the dot on the dillo adn fire away. I use subsonics so there is very little noise. Very seldom can they even hear me in my house when I shoot much less my neighbors. Took out 26 of the critters last summer doing the drought as they liked our irrigated yard. Only had to kill half a dozen this year.

When I worked nights and lived 45 miles outside Shreveport in the woods I would see lots of armadillos on my drive home.

Started getting home around midnight for a while and couldn't help but notice 1 young adult armadillo had started a habit of scouring the front yard around that time. The car pulling up would startle him and he would run to the edge of the woods while I turned and backed up to the house.

Stepped out of the car with my right foot one night and the dang thing had run under the car and then decided to run out again...right into my right ankle. Next night that I was off he had a sudden severe and fatal headache caused by acute lead poisoning of the cranium.

1 other thing to keep in mind about shooting armadillo's in a neighborhood: Watch your angles, armadillo armor has been known to cause richocet off their armor from small light calibers like .22

Being I am out off of town for two weeks I am sure I won't have a yard when I get back. I plan on getting the green light suggested above, but I want to put a scope on the 22 rifle also. It is old so it does not have rails of any type. I have shot a lot of armadillos over the years, but my accuracy is not as good as it use to be. I will also look for the best 22 round to shoot.

I also have 22 revolver for when I can get real close to them. But this will wake up the neighbors for sure when the long barrel rifle is quieter.

I've got another one also. Noticed its work in the front yard and by the carport. Usually, the Hwy. behind my house gets em. Hopefully I see buzzards next week in the park.

I started going out every evening in our side by side. Ended shooting 3 and 2 others never slowed down enough to get lined up on the last time out. Once the pasture gets mowed in the next couple of weeks it will be easier to spot. Ruger 10/22 with a 4 power Weaver scope. You know when you hit them due to them jumping straight up. The trick is as soon as you see them stop rolling and they will quit running.

Man I would be commiting suicide if I fired a gun in our neighborhood.

Someone is always watching. I have seen them on my back yard camera at night coming through my flower bed. I am watching for holes around my house and pool foundation

Apparently I am still getting the pictures wrong. Can someone enlarge it and tell me what I am doing wrong.

Next time see how close you can get to one. I have shot one sniffing the muzzle of a 22.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ This.

I shot one a few weeks ago that was less than 2 ft from the end of my .22 rifle. The trick is shining the flashlight in their eyes while you walk up on them.
The one I shot just went back to nosing around until I capped his arse.

If you have never shot one be prepared for the jumping around though. If you don't believe me just look it up on the interwebs.

The last one I shot dropped dead in its tracks. I was about 15' away and I shot CCI stinger hollow points.
