Been seeing a bunch here in Folsom. Made my wife and son come out on the back porch the other night - they did not give two shites about my fireflies.

Isn't it crazy these genius labs that can do anything with genetics, can't figure out how to stop mosquito reproduction

Cockroaches/Palmetto bugs and mice/rats also come to mind.
I HATE mice/rats with the fire of a thousand suns. They are, without a doubt, the nastiest creatures on the face of the Earth.

They might feel differently if they ever witnessed the synchronous lightning bugs. I saw them last year. It was surreal. And contrary to popular belief, the Smokies are not the only place they can be seen. There are lots of them in the East Tennessee Mountains. To protect the nesting and bedding areas, the park rangers do not publicize their locations. Going again in about 3-4 weeks to watch them again. Fascinating!

Where abouts? I have been seeing more and more the last few years. Mostly in ditches along country roads.

Why do we still spray for mosquitos? Is anyone is america dying from malaria with modern medicine?

Brilliant.

1.Mosquito control measures in place over the last 50-60 years.
2.Malaria, yellow fever, encephalitis and other mosquito-borne diseases reduced to very small numbers.
3. "Why do we still spray for mosquitoes?"

Ive had lightning bugs go crazy in my neighborhood in NE AL every year since we moved here in 2013. Not sure what's taking them out everywhere else because the city runs a skeeter truck twice a month.

Maybe they're just separating water to make it look like they did something.

Yep, been watching them for a couple months.

And thinking there's significantly more this year.

West Nile Virus will wreck you. I know a guy who spent several days in the hospital and damned near died from it.

It kills an average of 130 Americans a year, and LA and TX are in a hot zone.

The bite of an infected mosquito is also the only way your dog can get heart worms.

Do you have any idea how hard it is to put a condom on a mosquito?

I noticed an increase last year and it is the same this year.

Mosquito control doesn't spray chemicals. Not sure if fireflies a host like mosquitoes are.
