They usually show up by my house around Valentine's Day but the last 2 years they've gotten here earlier. They were on my house yesterday morning. Love watching them! Had about 10-12 families last year.

No Martin’s yet. But got a shite-ton of Gold Finches. They are going through 50lbs of seed per week right now.

First PM's arrived Jan 23rd here, now have 12 so far.
Last year I had 20 pair.
Visit PMCA website and look at the scout report, it'll give you an idea of when PM's show up in your area.

When should I raise my house? This is only my second season at this place. Will my actual nesters be later than the early arrivals?

It's tricky. You don't want to put it up too late but if you put it up too early the sparrows will try to run them off. Buy a cheap pellet gun and clip those suckers!

I really enjoy this. My Sig Sauer .177 is a tack driver. I got 5 hens in one morning once.

Mom said that dad has been out in the yard whistling for hours so I'm guessing he has seen some Martins.

Those who have Martins - How are they faring in this wintery weather? I had 6 staying in gourds before the freezes. In the middle of the consecutive freeze days, they were looking rough and weak. Have't seen them in the past 2 days.

I had one male show up the day before the cold front. I saw him sitting on the house not looking good the next day. Have not been out side much, so have not seen him again. I may have to check the house????
