Any benefits with braid over mono?

its the world's thinest utility rope with all the fishing advantages. the shite is like micro 550 cord. if you get hung on tulles or logs, you're gonna have to cut your line if your hook doesn't straighten out first. dunnit a plenty!

"Advantages of Braided Lines
Braided fishing lines offer increased breaking strength without significantly increasing the diameter of the line. For example, 65-pound-test braid has a diameter of .015 inches, which is equivalent to the diameter of 15-pound-test monofilament."

But there are lots of variables.
Very few instances where I would use braid.

Catch more fish mono..I have tested this theory many times...hands down for bass and trout mono is the way to go ..unless you are fishing heavy vegetation or other extreme circumstances.

I probably save $$ by using braid. I filled up all my reels with power pro 30 last year and they're still going strong.

Braid lasts forever. My snapper reels are packed with braid. I hate to think about some of the fish we would have lost to rig legs had we been using mono. Biggest advantage of mono is cost, second is its stretch. I use it when I fish downriggers because of the hard fast strikes of kings and wahoo, but I have to respool nightly during tournaments. They stretch that stuff out like Bree Olsen on a gangbang shoot.

Use the palomar knot for braid and only the palomar

Have fished almost exclusively braid in freshwater for 6 years and never use a palomar. Uni knot works great with braid. Doesnt slip and i have never had it break on me.

For heavier braid when offshore fishing we use a double palomar.

I've had the same 15lb test mono on my Calcutta 151 for the past 8 or 9 years

I keep telling myself I need to respool but I never do

Goddamn

I used to respool my mono twice a season. I guess it was a little overkill.

I really do need to respool, it's not like that stuff costs a lot. I can't remember the last time I had a fish break the line, but I'd be sick if I lost a biggun. I'm probably going to respool today since I have so much excess mono lying around

It's obvious you aren't fishing for big fish or around structure. You're line is good for another 2-3 years.

Any bait you are fishing that you need a powerful hook set and water clarity is no issue, use braid. But I don't like to use braid on any bait that the fish has the potential to throw the bait or pull the hooks out. There is no give to the braid.

Rarely around structure. Mostly marsh, occasionally the lake Borne rigs/Slidell bridges, but not often. Mostly specks and reds up to 27 inches with the trash fish that accompany them

I like it on a spinning outfit for bass with a fluorocarbon leader on the end, fish can't see it and I can fish 20 lb braid that is small as 4 and then have the strength to land big spawn bass with wacky worms or drop shot baits when they won't hit anything else. Daiwa Samuri braid is smooth and small but more costly than others. Use to use braid on Baitcasters again with the floro leader but now straight fluorocarbon as the main line, Mono on the crank baits and brid on frogs and top water. Works for me.

Zero stretch and you feel every bump under the water. I only use it on my worms and jigs. Crank baits and spinnerbaits, I like the stretch that mono gives.
