Some people see it like this: Freshwater = country boys & rednecks Saltwater = Frat & yuppies

I know this is a common perception, but I only fish salt bc when I'm home I have other shite to do. When I go salt, I am 100% committed.

naa, not salt life. Just was raised fishing Venice so going from that to freshwater is like watching paint dry.

saltwater is more of a hobby for the time being till i can afford a 42' with quad 300s

I'll go freshwater for a quick relaxing trip, but inshore saltwater if I want to haul some meat in. It's aggravating to fish freshwater all day and not catch anything but 13 1/2" bass in the spillway. It's nice to have those choices in S. Louisiana.

To tell you the truth, I'm kinda ignorant about freshwater.

When you get time go to my fishing 101 thread and fill me in on some good info about freshwater. I've freshwater fished quite a few times but I have never actually learned anything about it.

I don't get why you hate on me so much

It got to be too much work. And I don't want to do it and not fully prepare for the games, so I figured I'd just hang up the reigns. I'm sure I'll make the occasional LSU bet, but it won't be ~10 games/weekend like it has been the past 5 years. Gotta get out while I'm ahead too. Never a losing year

braid and a frog = salad shooter of the fishing world.

Braid and long deep water casts with a bottom bait = sensitivity of the fish jumping outof the water and biting the tip of your rod

Braid wrapped around your hand or finger when hung up = a chance to see your own bones

I use it for top water, and most bottom bouncing applications. You can use flouro that has very similar sensitivity though. If I am worried about fish spooking on the color I will use a 3 ft fouro leader.

Unlike flouro, mono and braid both float. This makes flouro better for diving crankbaits as the smaller diameter to lb test strength and higher density allow the bait to get deeper. However for top water or bobber fishing you need a floating line.

I do not, I don't recall making 'locks'

It really doesn't. I made this decision long before I popped the question

Unless you are throwing into heavy cover or catching Reds there's no benefit.

Mono out catches braid..period.

Would you two hens stop clucking about who laid the bigger egg and get back on topic.

Use the palomar knot for braid and only the palomar

Respectfully disagree. Each has its place. Really spooky fish with LONG casts, the zero stretch of braid out fishes mono any day. The stretch of mono is helpful for crankbait fishing if you are using a fast tip rod but with a graphite/glass hybrid rod you can get similar or better results with fluro.

Since there aren't any major benefits, I don't expect to switch to braid any time soon. Sensitivity would be the only reason, but I'm not running into much issues there.

I thought the same thing till I tried it.

The ability to cut vegitation with the line is often helpful for freshwater fishing.

I find braid tangles less and has less memory. Also it is easier to get untangled and still usable if you do compared to mono. With mono if you crimp it in a tangle and then get it worked out you really should discard the line past the crimp as it is a weak spot.

However, others complain about how it tangles more. IDK.

Oh, you can get more yards of the smae test strength braid on the same reel and storing in heat does not impart memory or make the line weak.

As a science/math minded person, I can assure you in my boat, and the correct circumstances, I am not.

But there are lots of variables.
