The ant beds in my yard are taking over. They are everywhere and when I treat a bed, they relocate and come back stronger. Are there any full yard treatments I can do, or am I just at war? I'm on an acre.

TIA

Would rather not have 1000 dead patches in my yard.

Amdro in a push spreader. They'll move to neighboring property for about a year but they will come back.

I've heard you can take a shovel and dig one bed and dump it on another and they'll fight to death. Repeat pitting one bed vs. another and the bed density will begin to decrease.

I had the same problem, would put poison on a mound just for them to move and start another one. Bought a bag that you put in a spreader like you would fertilizer and applied it over my entire yard. Been about a month so far and it has worked. No sign of ants. Can't remember the brand but the active ingredient was bifinthrin.

You can broadcast any granular product with bifenthrin in your yard and it will kill them. It will continue to work for 2-3 months after.

gasoline

this ^^^^^^

but dont light it on fire, you want the fumes to go into the ground and kill all the ones under ground

yes it kills the grass, but i rather dead spots with zero ants rather than no dead spots and ants everywhere.

i tried everything known to kill them, at best you kill a handful of ants on the surface and they move the mound

i used gas and maybe a tiny mound shows up after, i hit that with gas and they are 100% gone for good.

also, if you see a mound, there are at least 4 escape exits within a few feet of that mound that dont have mounds to mark them so you dont see them until they get you.

Do you drink? I find nothing more therapeutic than walking my 3ac with a beer or bourbon in one hand and orethene on the other.
Neighbor uses talstar spread over his whole yard and it seems to work good.
I like spot treating.

Upon the advice of one of my Forest Hill nursery buddies, I use Extinguish. It is a "bait", not a "killer" and works on the principle the workers will take it back to the mound and screwing up the queen. Queen dies, mound dies. It's a little pricey but I've found it works great.

I lightly broadcast in the evening around the perimeter of my property (~2 acres) and at any areas that have a concentration of mounds. Fire ants scout and feed at night and they will take the bait back the mound.

Try to do it when no rain is predicted for 3-4 days, and the hotter the weather the better.....and be patient. I may take 3-4 weeks for all the mounds to die.

I do not buy from this website, just used it for info.

Keep a bag of the granular stuff on your mower. Every time you see a pile dust it real nice. I haven't had ant problems in years, have young kids in the yard. Just an easy way to stay in top of it and make sure you don't miss any by doing it while mowing.

I've found the baits (Amdro and knock-offs) work best by spreading around the edge without disturbing the mounds and then, like browning meat in a skillet, leave things be, undisturbed directly. I can see where the opposite would work too like your suggestion of disturbing the whole area by mowing. Uniformity essentially.

I love the smell of acephate powder, but I found the drenching method with permethrin works good too.

Dial soap works. But get some Suspend SC, that shite kills all the bugs, dont even have lizards running around the porch looking for bugs. I dig deep into the ant pile and spray the mixed solution as deep as possible and all over the ant hill and any stragglers I can. They die instantly. The only trouble is making sure to get down deep enough to get the lower parts but its pretty strong and once they are touched by any "fumes' for lack of a better word of the spray they'll die.

ETA: it is supposedly made from plants (idk about that bc it kills the shite out of bugs and giant New Orleans roaches quickly, and if not they'll bring it back to their nest and get them). It is an Elmer's glue like substance you mix with water and spray. Just spray on a day where you know it won't rain the next day or so.
