Thanks for the reponses so far, everyone.

Just to be clear, I haven't suddenly decided to change from 1 box of ammo, to buying up a couple of pallets. My situation is changing a little, and I had to adjust my stock of things anyway:
I've encouraged and educated my son about small arms, and it's taken hold. A few years back I'd ask him if he wants to go to the range, now he's asking me if I do. So, a "goodly supply" of practice ammo is now double what I kept, say, 5-6 years ago. And I think that's a good thing.
I've been more of a handgun guy, he's actually a big fan of old rifles. I think this is good too, as I learned on rifles- learn to aim and control breathing, control your eyesight, better initial groups to encourage you to keep on... spraying a 1911 for 10 inch groups when dad is hitting 2 inches can be a bummer, but getting 1 inch groups with a Mauser is satisfying. That's what got him enthused about shooting, and he's kept the love of the rifle even as he's gotten better with pistols.
But- more calibers, more expensive per round, harder to find locally. Yes, we do have a couple 22's to scratch the itch, but it's fun to shoot big centerfire cartridges; and we went through the 22 shortage too.

Those who think "same ol same ol", I'm real hesitant to agree there. The Clintons, Hillary in particular, have been more than just talk when it comes to guns. Ask Smith & Wesson about the Hillary Hole. Regardless of any other policy issue or any other candidate's positions, I think it's pretty fair to say she is and has been an "anti-gun nut".
If you want to go outside politics and into theory, I really believe she thinks the answer to gun violence is to completely remove access, and wait until existing supplies of ammo run out; playing the long game. And frankly, it would work; it would screw us gun owners too, but I don't think she cares about that.

Clinton will pursue gun control through the courts. It'll become precident and there will be sweeping change across the country. Starts with these suits. Those that think the 2nd amendment can't be harmed are wrong.

They said the same shite about Obama, and now 8 years later, and at least two ammo buying panics later, the only thing that's changed is now we can take loaded firearms into national parks.

Is that why we were panic buying? Because the President said we can take guns into national parks?

This country is losing its mind.

Oh, and to the OP: Dollar cost averaging. Don't buy all your shite at one time.

You left out the fact that Obama didn't have the votes in Congress to pass his gun control agenda and yes he did push for assault weapons bans and so called universal background checks. Furthermore not once did he support the decision in Heller. He even used to the ATF to give us the failed and disastrous Fast and Furious operation. Hillary has already been on record on her stance on Heller and will put anti second amendment judges in there. To say other wise is outright stupid.

What you think is going to happen with a stacked court and control of congress? If she can stack the court it's a matter of time before she or the democrats can get gun control passed and this time, the court won't be able to save it.

So we had ammo buying panics because Obama was actually giving guns away?

The end of the world as we know it - just like every other time people have predicted the end of our way of life.

I remember all the end of the world predictions the liberals were making when Reagan got elected, they were just as ridiculous as the predictions the conservatives were making when Clinton got elected. Liberals freaked out when Bush was elected, conservatives freaked out when Obama was elected.

Seeing a trend?

Then I suggest you spend your last dime on panic buying ammo right now before the post election rush.

People need to just stop freaking out about shite all the time.

Hillary will win... republican controlled house and senate. Nothing will happen with our guns and ammo short of some needed background checks for immigrants and mentally ill, closing the loop hole at some states gun shows things we all can agree need to happen.

No we had them because several states and few democratic senators wanted restrictions on ammo sales. Some places passed them See california for details. Some people like to hedge their bets.

How's 922 (0) working out again? You know the Hughes amendment since you brought up Reagan. Did you forget about the assault weapons ban under Clinton? How about the importation of Large Capacity Military Magazine (LCMM) of 1998? It's the one that banned post ban (post 94) imported rifles.

You mean the trend where you conveniently left out bans and executive order restrictions? I see it very well.

No I but I won't put off buying my next AR15 or other black rifle. BTW what's it to you what anyone spends their money on?

Is that what you said in 1993? And on that note maybe you need to quit freaking out what people buy.

What "loophole" at gun shows?

What does the current NICS not check now that could be added to reduce the crime rate? A majority of the murders committed with firearms are in large metropolitan cities' low-income areas and are committed with illegal firearms. I don't see any revised NICS improving that.

As a vendor at a gun show, you are required to do an NICS background check on any potential buyer of one of your firearms.

Can private sales happen between individuals at gun shows? Sure, but there is no loop hole.

I'll give you one statistic to end this - gun ownership is at a record level and continues to rise, yet the violent crime rate nationally continues to decrease. How can it be determined that more gun control is necessary?

You are horribly misinformed on this topic. I advise you do some research rather than repeating the same old liberal gun-control talking points that gun owners have been hearing for decades.

One thing most of us can agree on is that the general public, yourself included, have no fricking idea what they even mean when the media mentions "gun show loopholes"

For one thing, everyone freaking out makes it's hard to find 22lr.

If there was a run on hookers and blow, I wouldn't really care as much as I'm not generally in that market.

If HRC's suit against gun manufacturers is allowed to go through and wins, that will probably have a pretty profound effect.

You seem pretty versed in politics, but I've lived a pretty long time and observed a lot of the erosion of our freedoms. People not freaking out is why the country has turned away from God and has allowed Islam to gain a foothold here. The communist agenda is take baby steps in control, and believe it or not, it's been happening.

It's a damn shame that this country is even contemplating electing a what should be proven criminal as its' leader, but therein lies the panic. The agenda will be in high gear with another Democrat.

I totally agree that this country has lost its' mind.

Precisely why I don't keep one on my vehicle. Still, the owner isn't doing anything illegal, albeit maybe a little stupid.

Despite that the violent crime rate has continued to drop each year.
