Anyone successfully deter bears from feeders on your place? What have you done that has worked if anything?

We started buying metal feeders, anchoring with 3' rebar on all corners and started adding straps to keep them from ripping the lids off.

I know a pole with a raised feeder is the way to go, we just can't get there overnight and are looking for some answers to help out in the meantime.

Neighbor has bears at his place. They hang the feeders from a pole extended out from a tree with a support bracket 15-20 ft in air. They raise/lower it from a pulley and winch/crank like a boat from the base of the tree. They also wrap the tree with sheet metal up to 10ft up and grease it so they can’t climb the tree. So far it’s worked for them.

We had a guy at our old lease that would take spray paint cans and coat them in peanut butter. Bear would bite the can and get paint in its mouth and they wouldn’t come back. Don’t know how true that was or if it is harmful to the bears but he swore by it.

In the foot sounds better than in the guts with a .22.
Either way, they leave.

We quit feeders years ago and just dump it on the ground. We have all the stuff to rig up a feeder hanging between two trees and use a boat winch to lower it. We anre only doing that because it’s a huge pain in arse to get to that one location.

We quit feeding corn. Our feeders all contain soybeans. The deer eat them almost as good as corn, and they get a good dose of protein. No bears at all eating. They will pass through, but never stop.

These things are getting way to comfortable around humans due to no threat.

Black Bears are supposed to be scared of humans but these aren't, they are walking up on peoples back porches and carports.

Someone is going to get hurt walking up on a sow with cubs in the dark or some such.

I tried soybeans and the deer never took to them. I left 3/4 of a bag in a ground blind. The damn bear grabbed it through the window without spilling a bean. It then shredded the bag 20 feet away. Bastard came back later and ripped all the burlap out of the windows. He also broke the antenna off my camera and chewed on my 12 volt external battery.

Soybeans are $25 a bag by our place, not really an option to fill feeders with them at that price. We checked with local farmers, no beans this year to sell.

My elderly Aunt had her backdoor neighbor call in the middle of the day to warn not to go out and tend to her flowers/veggies as there was a sow and cub up the tree in the back yard. This was smack dab in the middle of West Monroe.

GOD created bears

GOD created people

People talking about hurting an animal created by GOD because they’re inconvenienced.
