A word on e-bikes

I have railed against them on public lands for turkey hunting for years. I hope they ban them on all public lands in Mississippi, especially, and only especially for turkey hunting, but I am a man of culture, and so I bought one.
Holy hell are these things effective.
And fun.
And did I say effective? They're the FFS of turkey hunting. I regret to even make this post for fear that even more individuals will buy one and use it, but perhaps it will be a small cog in the wheel of expediting the outlawing of them behind gates closed off to motorized vehicles. If not, then so be it. I've got mine, and so I've joined the rat race. It will be deadly come deer season.
Muddy woods roads? Lock it in 2wd and send it. Gravel camp roads? Put it in rear wheel drive and cruise for 18 miles while pedaling when you want to. Put a gun rack on the front, a homemade welded basket on the back, and some window tint on the LCD screen for blackout conditions, and you've got an animal killing machine.
I'm the type where, if it's legal and everyone is using it, then by God, I'm joining in on the fun. Hunting and fishing is too expensive to go out behind the curve and come home empty handed.
These things have completely changed my game on hunting turkeys, scouting for wildlife, and covering ground.
I bought the edakani 1500 watt, and it has been lights out so far. I've no idea on the longevity of it, but on big hills, muddy river bottom hog trails, long gravel timber company roads, and zipping around the farm feeding animals, it has been a treat. I even got a little exercise. These things are absolutely lethal. LETHAL, I tell you.

Back in the 80s we didn’t have any e-bikes or turkeys, bunch of keyboard punks

Hell yeah they are effective. 70 year olds ride them down the beach in south Walton like it’s nothing. That’s been my issue from the beginning. I’ve been riding my bike for 20 years. It’s an electric motorcycle, I don’t really understand why most WMA’s don’t allow gas bikes but electric are allowed.
My biggest issue is there’s now no longer resting places for animals. Yes, you could always get there. But most didn’t. Now, it’s a hell of a lot easier to get places like 4-5x as easy.
Electric bikes are also 2-3x as fast. Biking up a hill was never fast, biking up a hill with an e-bike is a breeze. But I know I’ll get down voted so it is what it is

There is a reason they’re outlawed on foot paths on Mississippi WMAs and USFS lands for hunting other than game retrieval or 65 and older…they’re an unfair advantage over walk in hunters.

Yeah absolutely.
Let me also say, I strongly believe they are the future transportation in the national parks. Zion is already leading the way here and so is the Grand Canyon.
Which imo is awesome to be honest. We can get away from big roads for vehicles and move more and more to quiet and small ebikes. They are going to get away from the busses and parking I hope. Bring nature back to many areas. Then have everyone take an e-bike or bike and hike. It’s not perfect, but it would be a more natural experience in many areas.

Is there a gun rack for your 6.5 creedmore?
Can you wear your saddle while riding it?
Do you worry about your man bun getting caught in the spokes?
Is there a second seat for your husband?

I can't wait to pull up to my public land spot and see ebikes with lifts and big tires, light bars, drake and yeti decals, etc.

The walmart of national parks. This may cripple the hysterically pointless walking stick industry there.

Do they sell environmentally friendly dog boxes to mount on the back?

Yeah it kind of peeves me in Missouri. The conservation area I hunt allows them on any maintenence or hiking trail. They don't allow fourwheelers at all. I'm seeing old fat dudes in places i havent ever before and theyre always on ebikes. I've been using a regular ole pedal bike in Mississippi for about 15 years now. I'd be aggravated if they started allowing ebikes on the trails I use but oh well, I'll still figure out how to kill deer.

Get a bell so you can properly signal when passing on the left.
And don’t forget your helmet

quote:yep. I agree with all of the above. I gave up public hunting and joined a 6000 acre private camp for turkey hunting, and one of the many reasons is the e-bikes.

Don’t worry, those type of people don’t know what the hell they are doing once they get off in the woods

quote:there's still a gray area regarding this. Mdwfp has outright stated they're illegal for use behind gates posted as "no motorized access," but the forest service has not. However, e-bikes are explicitly stated at being an exception to the motorized vehicle rule in the regs on state lands, but the turkey biologist told me otherwise. They need to clarify this, then order a few thousand signs to post up at gates that say, other than game retrieval, hunting with e-bikes is illegal, because there are hundreds if not thousands behind locked gates this morning as we speak.

However, there's a USFS federal warden in my camp, and he said they're busting asses this spring on FS land. Said if you're behind a locked gate on one and in possession of the battery and turkey hunting, you're getting a ticket, and you'd better hope you haven't killed turkey when you're getting checked, or it's a whole other set of violations.

I’ve been looking at Lectric vs HeyBike. Anyone have a review?

The unpopular truth about turkey hunting is that if you can find and/or get close to a gobbling turkey by covering a lot of ground quickly they aren’t especially hard to kill, especially with decoys and TSS. This coming from someone who has only ever hunted easterns on some of the most pressured land in America. Success in turkey hunting on foot is as much or more driven by putting miles on boots and knowing where to be before fly down.
