I bought my son one this year for Christmas. What bullet does your Weatherby like?

Modern deer are pretty damn tough, and the creedmore is tactically superior ballistically, and very terminally dynamic at BVR engagements

I see what you did there!! Likewise, I've heard the 6.5 Swede can't kill today's modern deer, as well.

Are you getting exits? What bullets are you using? Something is wrong with that and it's most likely the ammo.

Getting exits. Using Remington Core Loct 130 grain

what ammo have yall been happy with for the 7mm-08
none yet. Got some Fusions. 140 Gr. The reduced recoil Hornadys get zero exit. If they ever hit bad there woulda been no way to find

Are you hunting grizzlies? Then yes, you are right. If you are hunting deer and hogs then it is a great gun.

Than it's probably a shot placement problem. A 130gr 7mm bullet going through the right spot will make a mess even if it barely opens up. Core locks are not extremely tough and I've never heard of one not opening, only plenty not exiting probably from over-expansion. Probably hitting a little too high and a little too far back.

I dont like corelocks, but the bullet opening up and coming out consistently is all it can do and all any bullet can do.

I bought a tikka T3 (before they became higher priced paid $300 brand new) my daughter 15 years ago in 7/08, can’t tell you how many deer that gun has killed between my daughter and son. Fine round and is deadly!

Killed a doe Saturday with 7mm-08 at about 200 yards. Nosler BT. Deer ran 10 yards, blood everywhere, complete pass thru.

Disclaimer: Although I've never killed a deer w/ a 7-08 rifle, I'm killed a number w/ a 7-08 15" barrel handgun. My handgun is discontinued single shot, bolt action, Remington XP-100. Both the gun and the rounds have been very accurate. It's become one of my go to guns during deer hunting season. I have 7 kills using handholds w/ 6 different bullets weighting 120, 130 and 140 grains. My handgun velocities run about 250 fps less than do rifle velocities. All bullets killed the deer, expanded well, exited and left good blood trails. At the reduced velocities of my handgun, I prefer lighter bullets of 120 gr, either the 120 gr Sierra spire point, 120 gr Nosler BT or 120 gr Barnes TTSX. OTOH, I've also killed 4 deer w/ an XP in 284 Win and a 16" barrel. The 284 is traveling about the same velocities as a 7-08 rifle. All bullets have done well in it (120 gr TTSX, 140 gr AccuBond and 150 gr Nosler BT). I think the 7-08 is a great deer rifle. It has a near perfect combination of lethality, accuracy and reasonable recoil. In fact, I bought one to be a future grandkids gun." I'll start them w/ a reduced velocity 120 gr Nosler BT. If I didn't handload, I'd look for factory ammo w/ a 120 gr TTSX or 140 gr Nosler BT or AccuBond bullet. I expect you to remain very pleased w/ your 7-08.

This buck fell to a 130 gr Speer BTSP in the 7-08.

Both of my daughters hunt with this caliber.
My oldest has a Marlin XS7 and my youngest has a Weatherby Vanguard Camilla.
They both shoot Hornady 139gr. GMX bullets.
Every deer that they have shot have not gone more than 25 yards. The javelina's they have shot have taken immediate dirt naps.
Great round. I plan to get one in May for my 50th birthday.

Unless doing weird things, a regular 140 grain load is always
My 7mm-08 suggestion. Barnes x or nosler partition if shooting bigger stuff

It's a joke.

He was shot with a 7mm-08 in the neck and survived.

Happened several years ago maybe 4 or 5.

Here's T4's tale of being shot and surviving.

For the one or two who may not know, the 7mm-08 is an offshoot of the .308 WIN. Others from that line are:

.243
.260
.358

All are excellent deer rounds.
