How many of you are shooting 500+ yards where the very high BC bullets shine? I doubt not many.

I shoot f-class matches regularly.

Ok there's one, but every Boudreax needs a 6.5CM with 150G Sierra HPBT Matchkings to shoot swamp bucks at 120 yards

I’ve seen several say that shooting that far is unethical. The OB deer whacking conundrum

Depends on the shooter. For 95% of the population it's bordering on dumb and unethical

Ok, so there's one and you're
right and I'm wrong.

The lack of fast twist barrels and heavy bullet factory loads are what left the door open for all of this new stuff.

Better?

Yes I would agree for the average shooter unfamiliar with hand loading and ballistics, they thought the off the shelf stuff was magic but it had been done for 60 years prior.

Look I pimp a dinosaur cartridge as much as anyone else but its a really poor stance to have that something is great only if you extensively modify it.

Its like the people who say the 6.0 powerstroke is great as long as you do $5k of work to it.

And that's a 50+ yr old round that every deer hunter in the world has. Guess those old timers half way knew what they were talking about and didn't need internet forums and marketing to tell them the latest and greatest round.

Your praise for the 270 Win is warranted. I don't mean to seem picky, but to appreciate the beauty of the 270 Win even more, we need to realize it's actually 95 years old. I grew up reading everything Jack O'Connor wrote about the 270. It was no surprise that when I bought my first deer rifle at 17 y/o it was a Winchester Model 70 in 270 Winchester.

Haha. That cuts both ways. It’s also like you’re saying the 12 valve Cummins is trash because it was wrapped in a Dodge truck.

I see people comparing this to the CM and PRC fads, but this is different. This is what all 270 Win folks, like me, have been waiting for... a faster twist for the 277. Nobody has mentioned on here that they are only offering it in 165 grains and up, give me one and let me work up a load with a 145 grain ELDX. Screaming accurate with baby recoil. In my opinion this is an Ackley on roids.

The only problem is they labeled it 6.8 to capture the flat bill college boy marketing craze. Should have named it the 270 Western or 270 Duke, anything is better than MM.

They're trying to sell it abroad also. The thing about the 270 was that 150gr bullets were the heaviest you get for years so the twist rate made sense.

What never made sense is why a factory 7mm rem mag comes with a 9.5 twist instead of an 9. If you're going to call it a magnum use heavy bullets in it. The 270 Win was as much a magnum cartridge as the 7mm.

Correct and agreed. I think Winchester didn't wanna kill the 270 wsm, but Browning put the screws to them. Either jump on board or we're gonna divorce you for something sexier.

I see a lot of folks online trying to compare it to the 280 AI and all the SAUms. That's apples to oranges for those idiots. Of course it may be equal or nipping at them, but it's the platform. Recoil, no belt, easy shoulder, and weight.

Thanks for this.

The more I read about this today the more I kinda want one. In an ultralight rifle for mountain hunting. Because I need that in SE Texas.
